This is viewed as an underestimated shower that has it's peak on September 1st. They're called the Alpha Aurigids and should start to be viewable from 28th August in the Northern Hemisphere. They may be seen from the 25th August up to a maximum of September 6th.

They radiate from the constellation Auriga, and they are supposed to be extremely rare. After the 2007 encounter, we will not see them again in our lifetime, so people should really view them. The whole event wil take no longer than 1 and a half hours.

They're supposed to make great viewing but I don't know what time the peak is at on September.

The best view of the meteors will be from the west coast of North America, before dawn on 1 September. Based on past showers, there should be up to 200 bright meteors visible per hour, and they may have an unusual blue-green colour. They come from the comet Keiss.

The problem I'm having is though, if it's viewable in Western America, then won't we be in the sun.

I saw two tonight, by chance, about 10 minutes apart. I just happened to be looking out the window at the time, enjoying the night sky.
