Please share your experiences / ideas on how to finish around a matt black Stanley Erin solidfuel stove. The recess is about 42" wide by 42" high and 18" deep, the flue is straight out of the top of the stove and the stove will be raised up about 6".

We plan to put ceramic tile under the stove and paint the wall to the back and sides of stove.. Only concern with that is a crack could form at the surface as a water pipe for the back boiler is placed under the plaster - then again it may not crack... What's your thoughts?

Some people have recommended we use heat resistant tiles on walls and underneath with flexible adhesive, others have said porcelain tile. Would ceramic tile work okay?

    Thanks...

No pic avail at the moment. Imagine a Chimney breast 61" wide x 18" deep with 42X42 recess into which a stove will fit raised 6" off floor. A pipe is mid way on wall and attached to back of boiler on stove just about 1/2" under skimmed wall . Would like to paint the walls around stove rather than tile, but would it crack from pipe heat, also is ceramic 45x45cm tile with flexible adhesive sufficient under stove? Has anyone done anything similar or have any ideas? Thanks again.

ive just recently bought a charnwood stove and ive stripped back the chimney brest to its render and ive had to widen the gape of the hearth to acommadate the stove. i plan to face the block work of the brest and of the inside of the fireplace behind the stove in reclaimed brick and sit the stove on a bed of stone sets. is your stove situated in under the head of the fireplace or is it sitting out with the flue breaking into the chimney higher up on the brest.most stoves have to be atleast 12 inches away from combustable materials
