    Also posted in DCU!

I will be applying next year and was just wondering what you would consider as the better degree, Commerce at UCD or Business Studies at DCU?

    Thanks

Its really all the same, its about how you preform in college and get involved that counts at the end of the day. DCU and UCD are both perfectly good colleges.

I fell in love with DCU at the open day there last year, but unfortunately it looks as though I'll be going to UCD now as I didn't get enough points in the leaving. Still, I haven't given UCD much of a chance, so I'll see what it's like before I make my final judgement.

UCD's smurfit school of business is ranked the best in ireland, 13th (i think) in europe and 34th (i think) in the world

The major difference between the two courses as I saw it was the length. UCD's Commerce is 3 years. The BBS in DCU is 4, one of those spent working in a company. It depends on which you think you'd rather do: get out a year early and either start working earlier or get a masters done before others have their degree, or get that year of guaranteed experience. Mind, I think you can opt to skip the internship in the BBS. I chose Commerce anyway. Going into final year, the course is good, but I'm hoping it gets to be a bit more challenging with my specialisation this year.

UCD Commerce is a far better course...provides you with more opportunities!

Apparently not. DCU is actually reknowned for its business school, and its facilities.

Smurfit is ranked nowhere near that high in either Europe or the Rest of the World.

BESS in TCD for international reputation. Although not an option in your poll I feel it deserves a mention.

Im in Commerce, Going into second year. So my view are slightly biased.

I like Commerce, like all courses it has its boring subjects but overall my first year was interesting, challenging and easy in all the right measurements. I also have friends doing the Business Course in DCU and tbh they like it just as much as I like Commerce.

Basically they are the same course. Pretty much the same subjects. Depends which campus you like more really.

    And just so we're clear:

Smurfit is ranked 20 in Europe
And between 86-91 in the world.

I think Grimes's point was probably the best - rankings are nothing more than a pile of donkey balls.

UCD's Quinn comes first when it comes to international recognition, but I'm going into my final year of International Commerce and to be honest I would have loved a year of work experience (which you get in DCU). I know I'll end up with a respected degree, but I feel completely unprepared for working in the real world after I graduate. Visit both schools and decide for yourself what's important to you.

ucd no question, most of the top ranking officials in the major banks, AIB, etc. seem to have gotten a masters from smurfit, both are internationally accredited aswell
its 13th in Europe according to this,

UCD looks better on your CV.
    Also, UCD has better accreditation.

Eh, Smurfit is the UCD Postgrad business school, so...

On a slightly related note, Page 25 of the new Freshers Guide will amuse people relating to this thread...
