    Hi All,

I need to buy a PC for video editing, creating home movies etc.
    And I'm torn between two.

I'm going to buy this from Komplett. It comes to €1448 :

    Gigabyte Triton, GZ-XX1CA-SNS Silver
    Corsair Powersupply 520W Black, ATX/EPS,
    ABIT Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI,nForce-650i SLI
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
    Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 2048MB
    XFX GeForce 8500GT 450M 256MB DDR2,
    Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 750GB SATA2
    Samsung DVD±RW burner, SH-S182M, 18x,
    Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate English
    Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000,
    LG 19" LCD L194WT TCO-03, Silver

or this from Dell. It comes to €1270 (I've a 10% discount with Dell):

    Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Quad-Core Q6600 Processor (2.4GHz,1066MHz,8MB cache) edit
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium - English
1 Year Base Warranty - Collect & Return
    Dell™ 22" Black Wide Flat Panel (E228WFP) - UK/Irish
    4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [4x1024]
640GB (2x320GB) 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive - Dual HDD Config
    256MB nVidia™ GeForce 8600GTS graphics card
    16x DVD +/- RW Drive
    Logitech™ Cordless Desktop™ EX110 - UK/Irish (QWERTY
Integrated Audio with Dolby Digital 7.1 capability
    Internal 13-in-1 Media Card Reader

What do people think, which is the one to go for ?
Should I make any changes? How do the monitors look?

    My budget is €1500 max.

Also, is Windows Vista a good buy for video editing?

    Many thanks for the help.

Those prices are fairly steep for what you are getting, how bout something like spec1.jpg
from Hardwareversand.de . Building it isnt rocket science, just missing a psu.

For what you're doing, that dell is far better and cheaper. There are some things that may or may not factor in - you won't be able to overclock it, the corsair PSU and abit Motherboard from the komplett build are of better quality then what you'll receive in the dell. If you're not gonna be chopping & changing your PC then this doesn't matter. The dell warranty is a lot better then the Komplett one too.

What make is it? Dimension 9200? Tell them to ensure that all of the 4 gigs of ram are recognised, I dunno if that means putting on a 64 bit operating system in vista.

You will need a 64 bit OS to recognise 4gigs of RAM

    Go for the Dell!

    Its a much better deal:

    4gigs of faster ram
Striped Harddrives (ideal for working with video)
    Faster Graphics Card
    Better spport
    Cheaper
    Nicer Monitor
    Card Reader...

Some people will bash the Dell just because its a Dell but they have very good machines, especially since Core 2 Duo was released.

I just switched to Vista, and have tried After Effects 7 Pro, Premiere Pro CS2 and CS3, Photoshop CS3, Lightroom.... All working perfect, I would recommend Vista
