I got a dell laptop yesterday loaded with Vista. I am having problems connecting to the wireless network at home. It says i am connected to the wireless network but that the network is not connected to the internet. But this is not the case as I am on the desktop in the house at the moment and it is connected via wireless and is working ok. The laptop is beside me as i write this and is not getting anything on the net.

The router is a netgear router and using a usb adapter for connecting from the desktop and wireless card on the laptop.

Can anyone help me with this??

Have you enabled a MAC access control list on the router, preventing the laptop from connecting?

Have you entered the encryption key correctly?

It could be anything really. Just have to rule things out one-by-one. Apologies if this post seems scattered.

The MAC control list feature is under your router's config pages. Can you ping the desktop? Open the Command Prompt [Start --> Run --> cmd --> hit enter] and type:
    ping 192.168.0.2

entering the correct IP address for the desktop. To find out the desktop's IP address, open the Command Prompt on it and type:
    ipconfig /all

The desktop's IP address will be there for the adapter you're using to connect it to the router.

Also, set the laptop to obtain its IP address by DHCP.
