Is there a way of definetly telling weather someone has messed with the mileage when selling on a second hand car? I'm nervous about buying a car that ive looked at that says 71000, when really it might have been used as a taxi and have more like 170000..any thoughts anyone? I know interior wear and tear is the obvious one, but is there another way of finding out?
sorry if this is an old chestnut btw!

Check for stickers on the engine block. Also check on the inside of the drivers door and top right of the windscreen. THis is often the places where next service milage stickers and timing belt stickers are placed. If these are ripped off, then the milage may be messed up??

ask for the last nct cert. It says what milage was on the car at the time so that should give you a good idea.

Check service history. Call a previous owner. HPI it if it's imported.
