I think the monkeys were originally cats, but were changed. It might have been a different building by the same stone mason though.
More info according to Pat Liddy's book:
    - sculptures by Charles W Harrison
    - built in 1860's by architects Benjamin Woodward and Thomas Newenham Deane for Kildare St Gents club
    - sold in 1954
    - interior gutted in 1976, 'a high point in of philistinism among Dublin's development fraternity' as Liddy puts it

    7. Dublin Castle, near the Garda Museum.

I'm guessing 9 is in Tallaght/Crumlin as the Under 5's are Shamrock Rovers Youth Hooligan group.

Is no.5 one of the lanes off Meath St?

    Is no.9 Sussex St?

And I'm waiting for my brain to picture where no.8 is, I know it just can't think of it.

No. My pictures are nearly always city based. If I post sub-urban ones, I'll say so. The above pictures are from Dublin 1,2,7 and 8. ;)

    Afraid not Gavin.
    Is no.9 Sussex St?
    Nope.

Indeed it has and remained unclaimed for ages. (I think I had to identify it in the end but I'm not sure). I'll explain later why I used it again. ;)

I'd say you're right there. I was born in the area and as kids we knew it as 'cow lane' because there was at least one abatoir there on the left-hand side as you look at the photo. The smell used to be woeful!

BTW, Empress Place was known to the older folk (going back a bit now!) as Newfoundland.

    No.

(Most of the houses on Summer Street North are 2 storey, except for a few sporadic ones on the east side. ;))

    Well spotted spurious. :)

Parnell Street used to be called Great Britain Street, hence the lane being called Britain Place. It also intersects with Cumberland Street North.

(That's where the young British pianist severed his finger on St Patrick's Night).

Thanks for that Rashers - I'd heard of Newfoundland several times but didn't know where it was.
