At least 9 of them are in Dublin 1 or Dublin 2. The other one is either Dublin 1 or Dublin 3 - i.e. it's borderline and I'm unsure.

Not going to argue with that... You know your Dublin, Rasher...

But there is most definitley a plaque erected for Matt talbot in granby lane too.. I stood looking at it for about 3 years on smoke breaks...

I work around the cornor now will try get a pic of it on the way in this evening...

Actually I think the one I'm talking about is erected because he died in the area...

There used to be (possibly still is) a cross marked on the ground in Granby lane which was supposed to be where he fell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 410 ✭✭flynnc8

Yeah there is definitly a plaque now.. It explains how he died on it...

will try get down there in an hour or so and get a pic up this evening...

Years ago you could pay a company for fire insurance. If you joined such a company they fitted their plaque on the wall of your building. Each company had it's own fire engine.

Now, if your building went on fire and a fire engine was sent out, if you didn't have a plaque from the particular company... hard luck.... your building burned down.

I remember seeing a few of these plaques, particularly in Dame St... one I remember was for Sun Insurance (I think) and had a plaque like a sun on the building. I think it's still there in fact, a few doors from the corner of Foster Place.

This might be one of those plaques.

    Or it might not.:D

The picture is The Combridge Galleries on Duke Street but I'm not sure if M&S goes back that far (not being a shopper myself) but I presume it does. Well done. :)
