Anyone with a few pics to post?

Have two I took tonight while wandering around town with my mates, quality of the pictures aren't the best for 3 reasons:
    1. Drink
    2. Camera phone
    3. Dark (11.30pm)

Photobucket is acting up on me at the moment, so doubt they'll be up till tomorrow.

Looks like the hostel on George's Street...

Well it's Aungier St but I'll give it to you. Avalon House to be exact.

Knew that one would be easy, second one should be harder.

Apologies if I'm not back promptly to confirm the answer to this, but:

I presume this has recently enough been exposed, so it might be tricky.

The picture is The Combridge Galleries on Duke Street but I'm not sure if M&S goes back that far (not being a shopper myself) but I presume it does. Well done. :)DukeStreetCombridgeGalleriesWide.jpg
Isn't that part of the Duke Pub? Will have a look during the week.

Igy. Its southside isn't it? (the brickwork)

Or The Bailey? IIRC The Duke is a bit further east after Duke Lane.

I think The Bailey is next to The Combridge Galleries but I don't know if occupies the ground floor. The upstairs certainly appear to be a clothes shop and probably is part of M&S! I don't be in Dublin that often so perhaps someone else could confirm.

    Apologies :)

It's in Dublin 8, and was recently exposed by construction work, I passed it while exploring some lesser known (to me) side streets

    Aye, it is.
It's within the canal, and east of Patrick St.

I know it's fairly obscure, i don't know if anyone would have seen it prior to the construction work.
It's just a random snap i took on my phone camera and thought it might be nice to share :)
I'll post the answer later if nobody's guessed it.

East of Patrick Street....mmmmm.....probably a side street between Bride Street and Aungier Street. I don't think it's Peter Street, Golden Lane or Whitefriar Street. I can't picture Bishop Street in my head - is that the one down the side of Jacob's? Possibly Great Longford Street but I doubt it. There is a construction site on Upper Stephen Street. I'll go with that for the laugh - Upper Stephen Street? :D

Not TOO far, but it's on Arnott St, as it curves at the back of the hospital. I presume it used to be a tiny pub, because the exposed wall is at the back of a fairly small site. Nothing else there to indicate it was a pub, though.
Checked it on live.com's maps and the building was still there when they took the pictures

Anyways, sorry for obscureness, i'll come up with a fairer one next time :P

I have to take a walk down to see that signage... there is a good chance one of my mothers uncles or her father did the lettering. They were signwriters who worked in that area a lot and in pubs in particular.

That could be a bit of my family history! :D

Never noticed that, and I'd walk past it at least once a week. When did you take the picture? As the there is wooden fencing around it now for the last couple of weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Ste.phen

Pic was taken on 24th May, and there's some of those clear, wire-mesh construction fences there now

Not anymore they've been replaced with the wooden fencing.

Should be easy enough, i've removed the signage though ;)

It looks like Trinity College from Westland Row, but I suspect it isn't.
