Is it better to record directly to a MTR for a live gig
or will it be ok to take the output from a mixing desk
    and record from that?

Does anyone have recommendations for recording a
live gig for about 4 bands on an MTR with only 3GB
    of HD space.

    Thanks.

whether to go via the desk to line-ins on the multi-track or straight into the multitrack depends on
    - whether the MTR has line-ins or Mic ins (if only line-ins you'll need the desks pre-amps)
    - if the MTR has mic ins it depneds whether the preamps in the desk or MTR are better quality. - If straight into the multi-track is preferrable do you have enough inputs on the multi-track to use splitter cables to put everything straight into it. If not mix the drums down to a bus on the desk and route that to a channel of the multi-track. if still not enough inputs maybe mix guitars down to another bus (if available). If your panning drums and guitars theyll have to be routed to a stereo bus and then to two channels of the MTR each.
    - If the multi track ONLY has mic-ins and no line ins, and you don't have enough inputs to go straight into the MTR you'll need to DI the signals from the busses back to the MTR.

Just a few points off the top of my head!
