Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Are the figures for each show just released to the stations or can they be viewed on the interweb?

You have to be a memeber of the jnlr to get the breakdown for the timeslots.

It seems to be a quiet period for the media in terms of audience share - the latest JNLRs show similarly small drops and gains across the board.

Newstalk at 5% nationally is pretty good; I think they've always said they wanted to match what they did in Dublin on a national basis, which would be 8% or so in 3 years, so it's a good start. That said 2% of that 5 is being propped up by Dublin.

I wonder how Phantom feel about 2% I don't think it's too bad for a niche station in its first year.

I'd like to see the programme figures myself. Esp breakfast and drivetime.

    Mike.

Well depending what you read, Newstalk breakfast-46,000, Morning ireland-435,00, Ian Dempsey 239,000, Drivetime- Hook 88,000 Cooper 193,000, that was in the Star anyway.

I can never understand how Morning Ireland gets such high ratings. I find it way too formal, just like most of RTÉ Radio 1's output. I've no problem with news, I usually take a look at 6pm or 9pm, but a rolling news programme in the morning isn't my cup of tea.

I'm suprised at the low numbers for Newstalk - they did have an ad campaign last Autumn but they need to keep at it esp when RTE is on short measures. Speaking of which they are back to a 7am start on Monday.

It seems to be a battle between "formality" and "unformality"

Some people like the formal set up of RTE1 and some people like the edginess of the other stations.

Now,here's the connundrum, the younger people don't give a fcuk about current affairs and the more mature punters do.

So do you pitch at people who care or pimp up the news for the small majority who may not be interested anyway.

Difficult to solve I would opine.

I agree FlutterinBantam. Morning Ireland has a good structure that works. News, weather, It Says in the Papers, Traffic, Business, item, item, news, traffic, sport, item, item, business news, weather, news, It Says in the Papers, Traffic, main item, item, news, traffic, sport, item, item, item and that's it.

And I don't think for one second that each and every listener listens to all of the above for 2 hours solid. I get all the news I want in the morning by 7:15am, really, once the business headlines are done. Yes, its formal, but you get the info you require, without text messages interrupting the flow. That's mainly the reason why I don't like Newstalk's breakfast show, in that I only want the info, not the opinions...

And also why I've grown out of "zany" or "zoo" radio shows, not just at breakfast, but the Ray Foleys and the Ray D'arcy's of these airwaves.

For Phantom, its a good result. 2% was where they wanted to be at this stage, so hopefully they can push on to the next stage.

For Newstalk... only 3% for 6 months in Cork... on a par with Lyric FM. Yes, Newstalk has a loyal audience that it has built up in Dublin, but I'd love to see what the national figures are without Dublin.

Speaking of Lyric FM, I'm starting to listen to it more nowadays...

Looking at the Irish Times today, the top 10 programmes are...

    1. Morning Ireland +2.6%
    2. Liveline +3.9%
    3. Gerry Ryan +7.9%
    4. Ryan Tubridy +1.3%
    5. Marian Finucane +4/6%
    6. News at One -0.7%
    7. Pat Kenny +3.8%
    8. Playback +4.5%
    9. Ray D'arcy -0.8%
    10. Eamon Dunphy +0.8%

All are RTE except Ray D'arcy on Today FM

    Selected others
    Drivetime (Mary Wilson) +13.3%
    Ian Dempsey +2.6%
    Matt Cooper +3.2%
    George Hook +5.7%

Biggest national figure to watch in JNLR books to come..... 2FM 13%.. Today FM 12.4%

Coming from a 25 year old, I don't really understand that comment? Granted a lot of young people couldn't care about politics or current affairs but saying none do is a bit extreme?

Mark.. of course you are right.

Sorry, I was firing a bit scattergun there, got a bit carried away.

However the keen stoodent of the media will have no doubt that the battleground for hearts and minds of the great unwashed will be fought on a
battlefield defined by years and attitudes and i would see a battle line being drawn at age 35+ and 35- with a DMZ of 30-35.

Nice to see some younger people interested in current affairs

FlutterinBantam in "Got carried away" shocker! :D

Drivetime up 13%? Y'see they do know more than we do :(

Yep, we're happy at Phantom towers with the result. Our aim is to have 2% market share after a year on air. For JNLR purposes that will be by next Februarys book (which will cover October - our 12th month on air as well as November and December). The aim then is to get it up to 3% during the subsequent 12 months. Takes time to build audience for a specialist station, but its all good so far!

Just as an aside, do JNLR just base on listeners off-air, or are other circumstances like webstreams and satellite streams (where available) taken into account?

THe JNLr is the bible as far as raido and advertising houses are concerned. But in reality its a farce. Ask 10 people in work or family have they been asked what radio station they listened to yesterday? The answer will most defo be they were never asked.
