    Hullo all

I was thinking of getting shares for my godson as a christening present (in my name obviously till he hits 18). Am going to spend approx 1K. Will go for one of the blue chip options.

What do people on the board think? Good idea or stupid?

Maybe get him a long term bond?

The coupons won't be much be he can cash in big time when he is 21 or whenever

shares make a lot more sense than a bond for that kind of term.

Consider an etf share tracking an index like the Iseq or the Eurostoxx.

Good idea. Go for either an ETF or buy shares in something baby related like Disney / johnson & johnson/ leapfrog/ mattel.

It's not quite what you're looking for, but http://www.oneshare.com/ sell single shares and you can get the certs framed. Makes a novel gift
