Need to setup UK Bank Account - Advice

I'm heading over to the UK to study for a year and I need to set up a Bank Account. I'm just wondering how I go about it, what do I need to bring with me and who is the best one to go for?

If you don't want a student specific account then http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/current-accounts/passport might be worth considering - although, £60 is quite a bit.

With regard to opening accounts - it's pretty much the same as Ireland. You'll need photo id (like a passport) and something with your UK address on it (bills, bank statements etc). If you are opening a student account, they'll be able to tell you what they accept when you go see them the first time in terms of ID - they'll try to be as flexible as possible as others will be in the same situation as you.
