Has to be fine. Bus and taxi drivers dont even bother conversationally interacting with anything that isnt.

Jesus...it would be a tad paedophilic if this was the case...!

I don't have that problem anymore...but I always looked way younger than I was. I had my first child at 18 and when we went anywhere together as he got about 10 or so, people always asked if that was my brother. My son's friends always flipped when they met me as "MOM". I always got carded too...last time was when I was 36! 36!!?? WTF is that all about. But now that I am 43 we don't have that problem so much. But all other mother's of children that age are like in their 50's.

I'm 22. Sitting on a plane last week, the flight attendant said to me: "What age are you?" I told her and my friend asked why she wanted to know. The flight attendant said, "Well you must be 15 to sit in the exit row." I was like, woah, do i look 14?!! It was funny, but kinda weird. And a little bit complementary...

Yes because 20 is so old...

OP, isn't it better to be told you look young for your age than old? Although at not even 24 you're a bit young to appreciate it. That's not meant to be condescending. It's just likely to be the case. When you're in your thirties you'll probably appreciate such comments.

I'm 29 and get told I look 23/24 - I flippin' revel in it! Not that 29 is old but it's still nice to be told I look five or six years younger. Age can set in early on for some people and that must be a bit depressing.
    I'm 25.
Some bint of a woman referred to me as "this young girl" the other day.
I wanted to hit her, but then I realised she was just an old before her time hag with 2 ginger kids to look after, it'd be easy for her to be bitter!
Was she actually hostile to you or did she just off-handedly call you a "young girl"? And what age do you think she was roughly? Because to a middle-aged person, a 25-year-old woman is a "young girl". It's all relative. Wouldn't you still refer to yourself as a "girl"?

thank god it's not only me. I got so fed up with people not believing my age that I always lied and dropped several years off it, then one time at a stag I got asked my age by the bouncer. I lied and said 31 (i was about 35). He said 'no way', then asked my date of birth, and i was too drunk to calculate the incorrect dob ! Embarrassing when you're holding up a line of 30 year old lads.

The most annoying thing that people used to say was that it'll be great when you're 50 and you'll only look 30 - grrr !

I think in general it's probably something women appreciate more.

And I thought I was bad.

    I look 14 and I'm 17.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Ah well, that's understandable. When you're under 18 you want to look older. When I was 17, aunts and uncles etc used to treat me like I was a kid and it REALLY pissed me off.

I remember getting on the bus home from college in 2nd year and being charged child fare.

I'll be 29 in three weeks and though it's getting rarer I still get the odd, "You don't look that old" when I tell people my age. Personally, I think it's great.

basquille, just show your co-workers this thread. When they see how moany you are they'll wonder are you really that young!

Another youthful face here. Some people think I'm a teen mom. How scandalous!

Yet another addition to the youthful faced here.

It does grow rather boring listening to people ask "You sure you're not 17?".

This is sorta' away from this but on Xbox LIVE when I'm chatting with somebody from boards here (don't remember who), he told me I sound 12! 12!!! I'm 21!

I'm actually beginning to feel it is.

The "young girl" or "girl" thing is something I experience too, but I'll probably be upset when it changes to "woman" or "aul' one"...

That's why the 'no boobies' rule is in place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,688 ✭✭✭Nailz

    What are you saying?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

That we can't post pics of boobies because young kids use this site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,688 ✭✭✭Nailz

Are you saying I'm a child or a girl?

I can't say I've had that problem... when I was 13 I looked 18, and when I was 20 and my mate was introducing me to friends they all thought I was 26-28...

I just hope the trend doesn't continue when I'm on my way to 40!

As someone who is over nine years older than you, and as someone whose parents are 40 years older than you and haven't actually hit old age yet, I can categorically state that 20 is not old.

    No.
I am saying that the reason we have rules against posting pics of boobies is because, as you experienced first hand, some of the members here are kids.
Someone may say they are Methuselah, but that doesn't make it true.

Its a pain in the ass! I'm 23, going 24 next week. Any time i have a shave before I go out i get ID'd. Was refused in Doran's a few months ago (ffs, was probably the oldest person there at the yime), and been refused in Tesco a few times with their poxy Garda card rule.
I don't have a Garda ID (I have lost 2 of them in the past), so technically i'm not allowed buy booze in Tesco ever. They've refused me with passport and full driver licence, thats just taking the piss.
The fact i'm in 1st year college doesn't help the case either. Really annoys me though
    ARG!

I look considerably older than my age due to years of hard drinking, smoking and keeping irregular hours. I'll maybe start buying that L'oreal Men Expert stuff to see if it is any use.

Ah yes, a few of them lads seem it have a kindness of children, and sometimes the opposite.. :) And I could imagine that a few of them are crazy enough to think they're almost 1000. Just goes to show doesn't it... :p

I mean for awhile it's fun and kind of silly, but when it goes into your mid 30's I think people should be able to tell. My son although thinks it's great fun still. But as I said...I don't come across that problem anymore so much into my 40's.

As for the getting carded for cigs when I was 36...sheesh that you only have to be 18...I could understand if it was liquor as that's 21 where I'm from. Oh well....enjoyed while I had it I suppose!! LOL

For those of you complaining about getting ID'ed, have you actually had to work a job where you have to ID people? It's not science you know; I eventually developed a policy of asking everyone young for ID.

I can't believe the upset this causes in people. I never minded hearing it, even when I was younger and it meant getting beer or into clubs and pubs could be a nightmare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,084 ✭✭✭BKtje

I used to get ID'd all the time, i even got asked for id in the student bar once which kind of annoyed me.

I've since grown myself a beard (neatly trimmed..usually :p ) and haven't really been asked since (even in over 23 places). I'm debating at the moment whether to shave it off cos it does annoy me at times but i don't know if its worth it to have to worry about carrying id everywhere again. Decesions decesions ;)

    I'm 24 btw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭EdgarAllenPoo

It does come in handy, when people come to the door they still ask "is your mam or dad in," when I say no they get lost because they think I'm too young to sell stuff to.
I have a friend who bought her own house recently and she had a similar situation the first day she moved in, she nearly died laughing and she's 30.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I'm 23, and I tend to look about 3-4 years younger. I was ID'd for drink the other weekend... first time in ages >.<

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,012 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

23, I could pass for 14-15. Actually, looking at pictures from when I was 14-15 I don't look any different. My only saving grace is the already badly graying hair and the work badge helps too.

When I used to work in Tesco, I asked a woman for id as I thought she looked under age (it turns out she was 23 or something like that) and you should have seen the look on her face. You'd swear I took a shít in her handbag or something.

No I took a shít in hers as well but I did it when she wasn't looking.

    When I was 14 people thought I looked 18. When I started college at 17 people thought I looked 21. When I was 21 people thought I looked 21.
I don't know what it means anymore.

My 'boyish good looks' used to always see me getting stopped on my way into pubs, clubs etc up to mid 20s, but from then I seemed to just become invisible to bouncers.

In my thirties now and I regular get told I could pass for 23-24, which I quite like :D

I'm 23 and have often been told I look much older, I think I'm just wrecked. I've had the old worry lines on my forehead since I was 20/21 even though I'm pretty laid back. At least I rarely have to show ID. I reckon by 30 I will be eating Werthers Original and complaining about my hips.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭Mrs_Doyle

I'm 25 and I still get asked for ID.
I don't mind, I just think its a bit silly. I might not look 25 but I certainly do no look close to being underage.
