Hello ,I have an edge 205 at the moment and I'm looking into making up courses with the software that came with it.

I happen to have another garmin device ,so I actually have city navigator 9 available to plot routes on ,with the edge 205 software.

I don't see any way of mapping out routes ,while using the training software.
But ,I can view my course that I cycled on navigator 9 ,which is brilliant I think:)

Any ideas of what I can do ?

EDIT : Sorry I managed to get what I wanted ,I can use mapsource software and directly upload to the edge unit.

Cool ,I've just calculated a bicycle route to carlow town from Dublin :D

I downloaded mapsource - the maps of Ireland only use main national roads. Have I downloaded the correct one?

This one looks great and is very easy to use. It is a brand new site though so some feature are lacking at the moment. Is there a location where you can download other people's courses?

I'd be interested in the answer to this one myself.

I don't think on that site but there are others which specialise in that, e.g.

    www.bikely.com
    www.routeslip.com
    www.mapmyride.com
    www.motionbased.com

Mapsource is garmins program for calculating routes and uploading to a device.

The maps you see with it ,are the ones that come with the edge unit. If you have navigator aswell ,it should be in the drop down menu .
I have a nuvi gps and thats where I got the mapping.

This is city navigator 9 detail .

With the edge 205 is it possible to plan a route before actually doing it and let the device guide you as you cycle or do you have to actually do the route first and record it?

If I wanted coverage of the north wicklow area could I install another map on the device showing me all the roads? As the name suggests that map system is pretty light outside of the city.

I picked out a simple route around the phoenix park and through phibsboro ,sent it to the edge 205 . Went into navigation and then routes and picked the route .
A line is drawn on the screen to follow.

I've done the same for a route to carlow from dublin ,but a line doesn't seem to appear. I haven't physically tried starting to complete the route though. There seems to be a series of flags with numbers .

I'll post up any results I get with longer routes ,maybe the range of the edge is not compatible in longer routes:confused:

It's not the roads that get transfered from mapsource ,it's just co-ordinates. Somehow the edge unit ,joins the dots to form lines .
It's navigation alright ,but more breadcrumb navigation as opposed to alternative routes.
