    Hey Guys,
Does anyone know where the Coolant thermostat is on a MK4 VW Golf year 2000? engine warning light is on and from what ive read it may be a faulty thermostat.

    thanks

on a seperate thing, the front brakes are squeeling alot, pads were done recently enough though. Ive heard that by putting some type of grease or something on the back of the pads will solve it, but is there any solution where i dont have to remove the pads to do it?

Not familar with that car but usually there is a hose goes from the front top of the exgine to the radiator.

The thermostat is in the housing where the radiator hose joins the engine.

usually just a couple of bolts.

Beware if the engine has been running the water will be at high temperature / pressure and may splash boiling water over you.

The anti-freeze can also damage car paintwork.

Don't know abou the grease, but if you get it on the disks it will severly impact on the breaking performance.

As you look into the engine compartment, the thermostat housing is on the left of the cylinder head. It's got a fair few hoses attached and a sensor (maybe two).

If it's a 1.4 then it look like the item marked 6 in the attachment.

copper grease is the stuff you have heard about for the pads, a small amount on the BACK of the pads - the bit in contact with the caliper piston - but you'll have to remove the pads in order to do it.

Seconded on the brake pads. Just ask the local motor factors for brake grease. No way around removing the pads, you are supposed to grease each set before you put them on. If its a DIY job suck it up, if not then should ask questions of your garage.
