There has been an advert in the Buy & Sell classic section for the last few weeks selling a Renault 16 (or perhaps it was a 6?)

Might be worth placing a wanted ad for a 16?!

Have you been in touch with the Renault Club in Northern Ireland?
I have seen some of their cars on display at various shows in the Republic over the last few years.

About a year ago i spotted a white restored R16 in a Shell station/Renault dealers, just outside carrick on Suir Co. Tipp. The garage is on the Clonmel side of the village and the car was in a small lock up, on the right of the forcourt. I asked in the garage and was told it was for sale.

There's a few for sale in this website (look in the 'for sale' section.

You may have to settle for a LHD one - but you could be lucky to find a good RHD. ;)

There is an excellent RHD blue on in the Blessington club. I doubt that the owner is selling (it's mint) but he might be able to put you in touch with someone.

Brian Dempsey 045 860 103 is the club contact (I hope!) so he might be able to put you in touch with the Renault owner.

Thanks for all the help guys;) .I know the car that was seen in Carrick---It is not for sale anymore. The guy who actually owns it(not the garage owner) has decided to keep it. I really dont want a LHD---I can possibly buy the best restored LHD car in europe at the moment but the missus said no way to LHD. Anybody know the Northern IRELAND Renault Club Guys?

    Keep me posted

    Thanks

    John:)

Perhaps if you contact the 'Association of Old Vehicle Owners Club' in Northern Ireland (google them) they could put you in contact with the Renault Owners Club (ROC).

I suspect that the ROC are a relatively new/small/informal club and may not have an established club contact system or website in place as yet.

    Might I suggest www.autoshite.com?

There are a few Renault folk on there.

I have had difficulty signing up there, but if you can get in, there are some excellent finds discussed from time to time.

Yes! I shamelessly robbed the gif from, I believe, one of the owners!

In my defence, it originated on a Steptoe tribute site somewhere;)

I was in the North during the week and saw a billboard advertising the Omagh Auction Centre's Annual Vetern and Classic Car Auction. Next weekend I think. A long shot no doubt but worth a phone call none the less. (048) 8224 1514

    Very nice, well done!

Are you getting it from England? Ebay? Was it expensive?

Would kind of fancy one myself.

I put an ad on the Renault Classic Car club Website.. I got a call from a guy who's car is featured on the R16 Regiter section/Restoration to say that he would sell me the car. I remember seeing the car for sale last year and he wanted crazy money for it---it goes without saying that he got no takers..
He offered me the car at a still expensive price, but I know that all the work is done. Only downside is LHD but its probably a better car for it!!!!

@ johnf2020 - well done! Great looking car, and seems in wonderful condition.
When did they start production of the 16? mid 60s? I loved the R15s & R17s too. I wouldnt worry about the LHD, just turning initially will have you double checking, but you'll be fine in no time. Its very handy for checking your blindspots before changing lanes, tho overtaking on a two-way stretch requires great faith in your co-pilot :D

    Best of luck with it!

    Thanks TC.;)

Production of the 16 started in 1965 and it ran till 1980---A very long run. When I get it I shall take a pic of my three Renault's and post it up.
