French cable operator Numericable announced that its very high speed network now passes over 1 million homes and that it intends to pass 2 million homes by the end of the year. La Tribune writes that the company expects to have invested nearly EUR 4 billion in its fibre rollout by 2010. Numericable did not reveal how many fibre customers it had signed up. Les Echos adds that Numericable plans to launch a sports channel within two weeks, showing second division football matches among other content. VoD will follow at the end of September, based on the offers of Canal Plus, Arte or Canal J. A mobile phone service in alliance with Bouygues Telecom is due to follow in the first quarter of 2008.
