Just looked up hte application form on Law Society website, exams running from 23rd March - 8th April, i was hoping they would be later.
Does that usually mean the next round will be end of Sept as opposed to Oct.

What is a good pass mark for the FE-1s? I just got my results there and based on what I got and how I felt the exams went it seems that compared to college exams the standard expected is much higher and they're marked much harder.

Would I be correct in assuming that very few people get over 70 in them?

    Hi Folks,
I am thinking about taking the preliminary exam in march and then the fe-1's the following september.I have a number of q's after a bit of background info on myself if you could help me that would be very much appreciated.

I come from a construction background (Q.S) and would be interested in becoming a solicitor and specialising in property most likely.

1.Is the preliminary exam difficult as I am not degree qualified just diploma.
2.Is there any good courses to prepare for the preliminary exam.
3.Is it realistic to pass all 8 fe-1's at once.I can devote myself to full time study for 6 months beforehand and consider myself intelligent/logical/ etc.I dont have much law knowledge as we only touched on it in college.
4.which course would be the best to prepare for them.
5.Is it easy to get an apprenticeship with a solicitor firm nowadays.
6.Are the job prospects good on completion (now in the future I suppose nobody knows).

Thanks very much if anyone has any help.

Is this some sort of wind up, or did you get a knock on the head? Personally I think you would be insane to start training to be a lawyer presently. Realistically you are probably a minimum of 4-5 years away from qualifying.

Anyway, there have been numerous threads discussing prospects for entrants to the profession. Suffice to say, there are presently zero prospects for property lawyers and although not that badfor the profession generally, things are nonetheless quite bleak, as many lawyers are being made redundant.

From what I gather, no not overly so.

I don't mean to be smart but so would all of the graduates who sit the exam.
I would imagine it would be virtually impossible for somebody with no legal background to pass all 8 in one sitting, I think realistically you should allow 12-18 months to pass which is average(including those with law degrees).

You might consider getting a law qualification i which case DIT, or if just the exams, well there is plenty to choose from again see the Law Society's website.
    LLKOOLK wrote: »

No, it is next to impossible. Especially without good academic qualifications, you are at a severe disadvantage. Read other threads on this point or there is quite a good one on askaboutmoney.com
    LLKOOLK wrote: »

At the moment they are probably as bad as they have ever been, many if not most firms presently aren't retaining their current apprentices on qualification. Come December and April when the next batch are due to qualify you will see a bloodbath with a maybe a couple of hundred being forced to 'sign on'. Most firms are cutting costs and are drastically reducing intakes of apprentices, many wannabes with top class academics cannot secure traineeships.

OP, some of the questions you ask display a complete lack of awareness of current developments. I mean the difficulties facing the legal profession has been widely reported in the media. You could start by searching through the plethora of threads on these points.

Just wondering if you get one subject rechecked do they look at your exams overall or just the individual subject you're rechecking?

I want to get company rechecked but would be worried i may be downngraded on the others?

Having not done them yet but from experience of other exams they won't be looking at your other scripts - you pay money for the recheck for a reason, to pay the person to look at it, they're not gonna look at the rest of your exams if you're not paying them to
