Ordered Dec 1. Same date it says 'awaiting payment' then 'payment received'. Nothing else after that. No emails, nothing, just a 'thanks for your order' email.

    Still no update either.

Pissed off with Arcadeshop.de though, leaving it a fecking week until I have to contact them twice in order to get a response. Was told I'd get shipping confirmation today too and I still haven't received that yet.

Have you tried gremlin solutions in the uk? I've used them several times. Fast, trackable shipping, very large selection of products from most of the big name manufacturers, good website, excellent and very knowledgeable customer service, and a good exchange rate for sterling against the euro at the moment too.

Hey, posting this here in the hope of getting a recommendation before i have to make a new thread.

I'm looking to get custom side art printed for my bartop arcade, but i'm just looking for a small circular 6 inch logo for each side, a hyperspin logo, to match the artwork i'm planning for my cab.

This is the logo I'm planning to use:
    http://i52.tinypic.com/14bsxkw.jpg

I've checked gameongraphics and all the usual places online, but they either charge a fortune plus shipping for what is basically a very small job, or don't do custom shaped printing at all.

Can anyone recommend either a walk in place in Dublin, maybe a (car decals place or something), or any place online in EU or UK that will ship small custom sized/shaped designs and not charge an arm and a leg for it?

Recommendations from personal experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, I mentioned in a post before, but I imagine it'd get more love here. I know a guy who'll do all your custom-sticker printing for your cabs and whatnot. Might do poster prints too, can't hurt to ask. Send him an email with what you want, design and size wise, and he'll get back to you with a quote. He's done a ton of sign-installations, everything from upmarket retailers to snazzing up boats. So, plenty of experience and flexibility.

    He's available at Tonybracken@gmail.com.

There's one up on fleabay at the moment with a starting of £350 so maybe keep an eye on it and see what it goes for.

A Simpsons PCB alone tends to be worth about €100.

I dont have much space for multiple arcades so I want to build a mame machine.Would anyone be selling a stand up arcade cabinet shell ? I'm looking to replace the monitor and arcade stick with a PC monitor and X-arcade stick

You really don't wanna do that ;) You wanna pick up a working cab, & buy a jpac. Then plug your pc in & enjoy is better that way. Arcade crt screens look so much better than lcd/pc screens

Yeah but don't Arcade screens break more easily ? I don't mind if the screen doesn't look as nice. I was just thinking it would be easier to do.But at the same time I wouldn't want to gut a decent machine so I might build the cabinet out of wood ? What do you think is best ?

Yeah an arcade crt does require more tlc compared to say a tv or a pc screen. They are highly serviceable though, & parts are generally easily available. You only ever hear of faults with them though, nobody ever posts up "Hey my arcade crt is working perfectly" or anything, so they're prob not as unreliable as one would perceive them to be. It would absolutely be easier to rip out the crt & replace it with an lcd, but it's a backwards step & you'd be missing out on a lot of learning experience. But go for what you're comfortable with :)

I'd also advise against building a cab, unless you're strapped for space & need a bartop or something. You'll buy an actual real arcade jamma cab far cheaper than it'll cost to build one usually, & it'll be the real thing.

So my advice, pick up a cheap bog standard generic working jamma cab with arcade monitor in it. Buy a jpac in order to connect your pc to it, & go from there. There's nothing really difficult involved, unless there's a fault with the monitor or something

CRTs are actually really hard wearing pieces of equipment. Think of it this way, they sat switched on in arcades constantly all day for possibly years, were moved around in the arcade, travelled to storage, sat there for possibly 15+ years (in the case of my two cabs, also travelled from Japan to the Netherlands to Ireland!) and in the end, lots of them still work.

So the issue is less with them breaking easily and more that they're just getting old (and some components need to be replaced/maybe a solder joint broke during transport)

Thankfully, there are still plenty of CRT hobbyist left out there who'll gladly fix parts for you.

I have an old PC.Monitor and Speakers.A good bit of wood out of my back.I was thinking of building a cabinet out of wood,Painting it and covering it in neon lights.Mounting a PC monitor and covering it with plexiglass.Buying an x arcade stick and mounting that on the front along with speakers along the side. Then run mame off the PC which ill have in the inside of the cab and get it to boot straight into mame when I turn it on and off. Then ill install thousands of arcade games on it.

I wanted to see did anyone have a gutted machine or cabinet shell to save me time.

But now Enter Now got me interested in maintaning an original arcade.I can only buy one,two at most due to space

I'm not trolling at all.I was looking for an empty/gutted arcade machine to build a mame one.

I respect how people preserve arcades because I'm similar with comics.I would really like to also get into restoring and preserving original arcades once I get a place built out my back to store them.

I wish you lots of luck with the project, I have a cab and wouldn't dream of shoehorning a crappy lcd panel in there, unlike some twonk who was posted here the other day

Highlighted in Bold pretty much the worst things you can do to an arcade cab. Avoid Neon Lights, Avoid an XArcade they look stupid mounted on the front of a cab.

Get yourself a proper arcade cab off mitch, you wont regret it. The arcade monitor is a million times better than an lcd or computer screen.

I'm guilty of using a PC monitor.I'm on a tiny budget, the way I see it is if I can get a bit of cash at some point I can pick up an arcade vga card /Jpac , then an arcade monitor and go from there.
However , is there any point in getting a SLG in the meantime? Is it much better than the MAME emulated scanlines?
The bolted on Xarcade a lot of people have is pretty bad looking though!

The difference is, you havn't ripped out a good crt to stick in an lcd. You're making progress even by using an lcd, which you can always swap out later on down the road :)

Try the triad6.png effect. imo it gives a pretty good effect.

    Mame scanlines are pretty good.
Where the hardware slg's work better is if you have a bunch of different emulators, each of which might generate a different style of scanline if any at all. At least with the SLG the look will be consistent.

Are you trying to make a 15k scanline image from a 31k game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,922 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

I have a mame pc hooked up to my trisync atomiswave.

I can run mame at 15khz with real scanlines no bother but it becomes a chore having to adjust the h size and v size every time I select a different game.

Running at 31khz keeps the game aspect constant but without scanlines so emulated scanlines are an option. Just wondering is the triad png suitable here?

You still have scanlines in 31k alright, they're just at a higher resolution so look smaller.

If you can't get it to work via software, you could always try a downscaler?

They're not that expensive at all. I got an Xtron RGB from the Pyongster for about €30 I think it was.

It basically converts your 31K signal into a 15k signal for proper arcade scanlines.
