Hehe - okay, I'm working on it, and there is a bug in the buddies functionality. By rights, you should have to approve from both ends, but the approval form doesn't work very well so I'm looking for a solution... So for now, you'll see the buddy / buddy of thingy, but later we'll change it to buddy and pending requests.

I've set up a http://wiki.boards.ie/wiki/Social_Beta page for you to discuss bugs, desired features etc.
