Just to put the boring financial spin on this but Take2, Rockstar's parent company, has been having a few financial hiccups recently which culminated in half the board and the chief executive getting binned in March.

The new chief exec has been doing his best to bring the company back under control and is in the process of selling off anything that isn't a core business unit, ie it doesn't make games.

The upshot of all of this is that there's no way they'll release an uncut version of the game when they can just release a Europe wide cut version. The increased cost's incurred make it a nonrunner especially given the companies current financial situation.

On another note Take2 have a news item up on their investor relations website about Manhunt 2 recieving an M rating in the states and being set for an Oct 31st release date.

    Same question I asked above...

The game is supposedly ready or near ready in its uncut form, could you explain to me what costs you think would hinder a release in the Netherlands?

(And I stress the Netherlands, not just Holland. A Holland-only release is highly unlikely)

Its simple finance basically. You have 2 products A and B. A and B are interchangeable and basically the same. Manhunt 2 cut and uncut in this case. Product A can only be sold in one area of Europe while Product B can be sold anywhere in Europe.

You press 100,000 copies of A, unfortunately it doesn't sell well and only 30,000 are sold. You now have 70,000 units unsold and unsaleable anywhere else in the world. You press 1,000,000 of B for other European areas, demand is strong and another 70,000 units are required.

You now have to go and press 70,000 of B while you have 70,000 of A on hand.

No company would risk being stuck with unsaleable stock when it could foreseeably avoid it.

Its not really a matter of the costs involved in doing it its just a question of do you want to make more money or less money and in Take2's situation they definately want to make a lot more money.

They said they were working with the ERSB to make sure they don't get a AO rating. They already had to cut stuff

Ah poo pants. Was quite looking forward to Condemned 2 passing thorough uncut, although I don't see any real reason to have it more violent than the original. Other than to appeal to the Hostel 2 crowd.

Fahrenheit was given an Adults only rating in America. Similarly to Manhunt 2, it was cut so these companies would allow it to be released on their systems.

It was released uncut in Europe on systems which have a no adult titles policy. Therefore it would seem that if a game is given AO in the States, it is viewed by publishers as AO in that region only.

Plus the uncut version only received a "15" rating over here. Strange indeed...
