gandalf would you have space in your car still mate? I might look at coming along too like. Need to go and get sorted out with camo etc first though.... happens that the mrs. is over in Scotland that weekend!

Has anything happened regarding setting up some form of registration system as discussed?

Hmmm, gandalf? You might want to keep a bit of space in your car for a largish wooden box ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Yikes just promised the final place to someone yesterday. As I said my mate is a maybe and is entirely dependant on his wife and infant child letting him away for the day. If he crys out then you're more than welcome to take his place.

Interesting to see what ye lads are getting up to with transborder/transport.

FYI, I do have a very large disused (but not derelict) industrial warehouse available for *say, CQB*, that's at least 5/6 times the size of HRTA (if not more ), with stairs and offices and whatnot :)

    ...in France :(

ah, good - I'll turn the wound around the knife a bit more then :D

'tis one on end (red arrow):

    UsineCQB.jpg

About same width as HRTA, give or take a couple of meters, easily 5/6 times the length, and twice the height (photo doesn't do it justice). Offices at far end on 2 levels with gantries.

Talking to my brother atm, seeing if I can get him interested in checking some stuff out 4 me / basically set us up a week-end biz (there's tons of teams around that neck of the woods, as I understand things, with nowhere "permanent" to go à la HRTA). I need a long chat with davvowl as well.

So ... who fancies a weekend trip to France? :D

    Incidentally, whereabouts in France ambro?

North East, near Belgian/Luxembourg border. No easy way to get there from Ireland I'm afraid - gotta be O'Leary air to Charleroi (and that line closes on 2nd November, btw).

Hmmm, how does French law stand on airsoft kit? Anything specific (e.g. 1j rule in Irish law) or licensing, etc.?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

The wiki says 2 joules, guns must be concealed in public, and the usual about private land.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,986 ✭✭✭ambro25

Wiki, as rightly quoted by Boston, sez

    * Visible transportation of replica firearms in public areas is forbidden. All replica firearms must be covered with something, for example, a weapon case.
    * Land owner's permission is needed to play airsoft in any area.
    * Minors (under the age of 18) can only buy airsoft gun which are under 0,07j with 0,20gr.
    * Airsoft gun may only have a power under 2j with 0.20gr projectile, otherwise they must be registered (...)

So, pretty much same as Ireland, except 2J i/of 1J. But I'm currently looking more into it from a biz perspective (insurance, liability, etc. - considering catchment area and high potential for 4 nationalities of players at any one time: FR, LU, DE and BE - and therefore, obviously, issues with transborder transportation)

Sounds good ambro, and considering the UK government's recent and extremely complete sh*tting all over international events held in the UK, you may be on to something :)

Still hoping for a large site here in Ireland, the potential is absolutely staggaring.

are you aware of anything in the pipeline? I know airsoft is fairly young here still but with places like hrta, and drogheda also doing well now its up and running, it makes me wonder just when someone is going to purchase, or inherit that 100 acre site in the country and turn it into a veritable warzone!

Surely it cant be far off....

Odonnell believe me, if I knew anything I wouldnt be having this conversation. I would be out digging trenches and building look out towers :D

Nonex has made mention of a larger site, HRTA 2, that he is trying to open circa the 20 acre mark. A welcome change and addition to the Irish Airsoft landscape.

A much larger site is indeed in the works. As Hivemind mentioend, Paul is working on this at the moment. No idea of a time frame, but I do know that the site will be huge and can have permanent airsoft structures (unlike the current site)

Just slightly misread on that one. But it depends on whos quicker with the draw and who has a shotgun.

Still awaiting my invoice to pay for the large wooden box, so not sure if it'll be here in time for this weekend. Needs to be downgraded to 1j as well before getting sent :(

And I've been having fun with An Post, Customs, and Canada Post over my errant radio + throat-mic which is now some 4-6 weeks overdue.

    I hate days like today.

I know what you mean. I spent 9 months working on project in work. Finally got around to doing a few test scenarios and I've found that Customer Service Reps in the Hungarian and Indian helpdesks can't use a database that was designed to be so simple that a 5 year old could use it. About 2 months ago, once of the managers had his 9 year old son in work for the day, and he was able to use the database!

<----goes off to bang head against the nearest wall.

Drogheda could have at least 60 players in one game. Soon as the village is done it'll be nuts! First he has to hire a steamroller though! Flatten it and then building it shouldn't be too difficult. AND, wont be a mucky mire like the village in pred!

I cant wait for a go at Drogheda, i just need to get my camo sorted out and some wee peripherals...

An overnight stay would allow us to be up and ready nice and early instead of also having a trek at soime ungodly hour of Sunday morning :p

Plus Beerage the night before :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

ask the lads at predator *really* nicely if they mind us pitching a few tents :D

we could probably find a campsite somewhere nearby

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭odonnell

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

If its over night it would have to be sunday for me, and I'd be up for staying in a B&B or the like. Whats sunday like at pred?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭odonnell

Well this is gandalfs sindig, but I work fridays, as I imagine do most people, so you're talking late enough before we get out of dublin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭odonnell

its possibly the most annoying thing about living in dub - 2.5 hours to belfast, 1 hour JUST to get out of dub.

dunno, im easy either way...wife is away, cat can play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Have left a message for them but the more I think about it the more I am inclined to go for the Sunday walk on day as there will be more people there. After all you do want more targets don't ya ;)

I am definately going to try and stay somewhere the night before now as it makes more sense than as Lemming says getting up at the crack of dawn. odonnell your sussing out hotels, if you find a good one let me know. I will ask the guys in Predator when I do actually talk to them for recommendations.

    Will update later.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭odonnell

forgot about the walk-on thing sorry lad.

ill away and have a phone at some hotels at lunch, tents are for the homeless :D

This may strike you as funny but dammit man, i might need to 'borrow' an aeg off ya gandalf - believe it or not, ive buggered my back and walking crouched or going prone whilst holding the M4 did my back in even further yon weekend.

Dare i say - i need something lighter!! heh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Hmm the AK is longer than the M4.

I could give a loan of the MP5 PDW as its light but wouldn't be a great long range weap. There is the sniper I suppose ;) Let us know closer to the time. I'll be hoping to bring the M4A1 with me for Predator.

    http://www.millbrooklodge.co.uk/information.htm
    https://beechlawnhotel.com/booking/

millbrook hotel is actually in Ballynahinch which is a kick in the bollix away from Predator as far as i can tell. single room/breakfast = €70 a night though, but apart from that guy its B&Bs dotted around the surrounding towns and villages.

Ill give it another look later on. Millbrook is maybe a bit glitzy for this purpose.
