    *chuckles* No debts, thank god.

    Cash is king.

Excluding the mortgage I owe €130 on my credit card. Luckily for me I'm
owed €130, which I'm getting today. Bought something online for a mate
who has no credit card so he's giving me the cash to cover it.

Have a car but its an old 2nd hand one I bought for cash.

I absolutely hate being in debt, the thought of it gets me panicking!

Grew up in a house where my parents held a number of jobs to make ends
meet and make sure my brother and me never went without anything we
needed so I tend to be very careful with spending so that when the time
comes my kids will have all they need without me being working all the hours
in the day to afford it.

Downside, I'm sometimes overly cautious about spending on myself.

This month the balance in my savings account has exceeded the balance in my loan account and my credit card is at zero. The first time in 6 years I've been in the black.

I just can't bring myself to dump the savings account into the loan account :(

About 22-23k in total. I'm 23. Most with the bank and the rest with the credit union.

It's all summed up in in the last few years, it started off with car and insurance which was not cheap. Then i made the mistake of getting a credit card which i took full advantage of while i had it. Now i've paid off the card and don't use it anymore and trying to get back on track with the debts. Hope to have it all paid off in a couple of years.

On that note, who at the moment offers the best interest rate? I'd like to get a consolidating loan to cover it all. At the moment i'm with Bank of Ireland. Who can beat these guys?

Ditto....... exactly the same situation :( except I'm 22

how in gods name can you get yourself into such debt at your age??

i am 32 and this is the most debt, i have ever had in my life and sometimes it scares the hell out of me and i could realistically pay off the loan tomorrow (expect for the mortgage) how do you sleep at night?

Currently have about €3000 to my name and zero debt:)
I went through a fairly rough patch a few years ago when I got my first credit card, the €2700 credit limit was reached in a couple of weeks...
Kind of learned my lesson these days, after managing to clear my credit card debt (had to lower the credit limit to €800) plus 2 loans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭azezil

€623 left on my loan, took it out over 3 years just last year, so doing pretty damn well on those repayments :)

And I just popped another €650 on the credit card, but I'll clear that once I get paid on Friday.

Thankfully, no debt at all. I cleared everything in the last year, both credit cards are empty (Although, one always was), and my bikes have been cleared too. I'm about to hop on the merry-go-round with a car again soon though!

Woohoo, in debt again. It's great. Really. Yes I'm convincing myself!

Ok thanks for that making me feel a whole lot better :(

I earn great money for what I do so I'm not too worried, I do occasionally wish I hadn't made the mistakes I did but its a life lesson learned and I am just **** with money...but i still live the lifestyle I want while paying back my debt so I don't really bother about it too much

Hmm - I have a lot of debt and it's been going up and down somewhat. But I own my car outright. Currently I owe €13889.65 on my loan (culmulative since Uni; travelling for a year; college fees from an MA and a recent BA I started) and €1519.37 on my cc. I'm not too worried about it as am paying it off monthly, so it'll clear eventually.

My attitude to money has changed a lot over the past few years. When I first moved to Dublin, I always knew to the penny how much was in my a/c. I had a 2nd job to supplement going out, etc, and it was all hunky dorey. Now, I never know how much I have and I have no idea where it's all going!

Next month I definitely need to sit down and see where the cash flow is heading towards as I feel I don't really go out that much, and I make my own meals etc, yet still am in the red on payday! I would advise anyone on keeping a spending diary. I did one a few years ago and was shocked at how much money I was spending on take-aways and eating out! Really put a stop to all that at the time.....

    Lis

I think in total I'm about 3000 in Debt. Credit cards were my biggest pain but chopped them all up after traveling the world for 4 years :)

No Mortgage and don't want one until the house prices come back to normal maybe at the end of next year ~ early 2009...

€1000 left from a car loan of 6k.

At the time (being under 25) Insurance was high and my wages were crap.
Now at 26 i'm glad to say things are on the up for me, i've gotten a raise done a few more exams, my insurance has gotten cheaper and my car loan is finished in Feb + I broke up with the high maintenance GF which is a big money saver (and I get to lie in on a Saturday as long as I like).

I really couldn't be happier. After it's paid off i'm going the Dragan route Ka$h is King.

    285k on the mortgage

Have personal savings of 6K but with OT this month that will be 10K (going to NY in october so back down to 4K)

About 15k in the joint savings account with the missus

Not a clue what she has..

    Credit Card: $10,500.
    Loan: $10,000 give or take.
    Car: $15,113.06

Mortgage: Half of about $580,000 (Split with Wife)

In theory, I'm solvent, as the value of my assets (Mainly the two cars and the house) is definitely higher than the amount I owe, but I'm highly annoyed that at 32 I still have no savings (As a result of unemployment during the dotcom crash). I hang out in the Army another 13 years, and I'll get something, whether or not it's enough to live on, I don't know, but at least the house'll be paid off, which should help. It's far and away the majority expense I have, with over 60% of my salary going to the mortgage and household bills alone.

Anybody who's on a college campus that has an Ulster Bank will probably owe the same €650 that I do(Damn interest free overdrafts). Anybody you talk to in my year owes it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

    Hmmm let me see now

Theres the 250k in used reddies under the bed ( so the taxman can't find them )

Theres the 100K in my pension fund ( that the taxman does know about )

Theres the 500k in the non residents a/c 'cause I'm not resident anymore ( or won't be when I can get out )

and theres about 45k in the ol' EBS for emergencies

and about 50k owing on the house

And thats just this years figures

Of course this is totaly true 'cause all taximen are absolutely raking it in ( NOT )

Just €100-200 on the credit card at the moment and nothing else. All going well though I'll have a small mortage for a place with the missus in Poland. We'll owe about €30,000 so half of that. Have about 5K saved at the moment, but must try harder!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭stakey

    €0

Well, truth be told, paid off the credit card this morning... (Valve and Steam are my crux, hehe)

Advise on keeping costs down, spend within your spending ability and always keep on top of debts... common sense right down the line!

Owe nothing, other than the mortgage which is about €370k (between 2 of us)..

Have a decent amount of savings, but not enough to wipe out enough of the mortgage to make a difference to repayments! Always pay off my credit card bill every month - used to actually use it as a savings account as the interest rate was great.

I owe Ben at the Reptile Haven (reptile shop on Fishamble Street) €100 for a female cornsnake, she was ovulating at the time, took her straight home and tossed her in with a male corn who obviously did the deed because she laid eggs 3 months ago and her babies are now four weeks old and she's now pregnant again!

    €-170 in the bank account.
    €159 on the credit card.

However, I'm getting 2 paycheques at the end of the month (And holiday pay bonus) and I'm owed €550 in tax back, so I'm pretty okay.

I owe €100 or so on my credit card. A tenner of which was to get something for a friend of mine and he still owes me for. And €40 of which was to get something for my brother and he still owes me for. The other €50 was to pay the subscription to this place.

Half of a 90k mortgage. No debt bar that. Nice bit going into several savings account. Own two cars (selling one - was a project!)

Don't buy anything on your credit card you can't pay for this month.
Pay your balance in full by DD at the end of each month.
Cut your cloth by your measure. :D

Think the CC company actually owe me ~€5 at the moment as I clear it at the end of every month but sometimes overpay it.
And all my accounts are well in surplus so I owe nothing!:)
