Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That may not work because you have to post the barcode from the box of the HD DVD player.

I rang Xbox while ago, and they said the offer isn't open to Ireland.

Would love to know where I stand!

Theres no harm on sending out your barcode and a copy of the receipt even if it is open to Ireland or not.

    Of course there is!
What if you send your barcode with the offer not open to Ireland. Then, say December 1st, the offer finally opens for Ireland, but it's a different address you need to send your barcode away to. What happens then?

I got transformers on HDDVD there last week tis wicked.....

OK lads.. am thinking of buying this tomorrow as i've a 1080p TV which is both in need of HD-DVD and also upscaling of standard DVD's.

How does it rank in the latter - upscaling? Also, don't have the application form close to hand - when does the 5 free HD-DVD offer end, and is it limited to the first 25,000 (or whatever) applicants like the 10 Free Arcade Games promotion is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,921 ✭✭✭Soarer

Can't help you with the upscaling thing, I'm afraid.

But the info on the offer is here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 553 ✭✭✭TakeTheVeil

the 360 upscales over VGA anyway. You don't need the HD DVD drive.

It also wont upscale over component at all so you'll need a VGA (or maybe HDMI if you've got an Elite im not sure)

1280 x 1024 @ 60 is the max resolution of a signal carried over a VGA Adapter, and is a long way short of Full HD, only DVI, Component or HDMI can carry a full HD Signal.

Component however as it is an analogue signal and not HDCP compliant will only play not HDCP HD Content, however as Upscaling a DVD does not require HDCP compliance it would be silly for an XBox 360 to not upscale over component, and as such it will upscale a normal dvd to 1080i over component.

Is there a firmware update for the hd-dvd, transformers gave me a warning about certain visual features not being avalible. anyway when i fastforward, it locks up(i noticed a lttle scroll bar for the ff). Everything else is grand.

Probably best to delete the update. Yo can do this by going into the memory of your HD-DVD player and deleting the cookie.

    You sure about this?

When I connect my 360 to my 1080p tv, I can set the resolution on the 360 to 1920x1080.

Never had any lockup problem myself, I did accept the cookie afaik....

You're wrong mate.. both component and vga can output 1080p, however not all TVs will accept a 1080p signal over analog connections. So there is very very few TVs that accept 1080p over component, but quite a few that accept it over VGA.

The 360 can and does output 1080p over VGA, whether your TV accepts it will determine whether you can view it, not the VGA connection itself.
