How easy is WarHawk to get into. From reading some of the posts it sounds like there is a long learning curve and no way to practice yourself ?

Also, what's the diffeence between the 60 euro package xtravision and gamestop are charging and the 29.99 download on the PS shop ? headset ?

You can start your own closed server and fly about etc to get used to the controls. Then when you're happy with that, log onto a rank-restricted server (sergeant and lower maybe) for the first while so you don't get creamed straight away. Took me a couple of tries to get into it. Not tough at all really.

Just the headset I think. Not even sure how good it is. I use my Playstation Eye for the voip. I rarely talk though.

No not really man,you might find the occasional disgruntled yank shouting "get the god damn flag noobs" or something to that eefect but i havent had trouble with thrash talkers so far:cool:

The headset that comes bundled with the game is bluetooth. The usb cable is for charging it.

Anytime I played it I rarely heard people talk. If you do feel like talking you need to push in L3 on the controller and then talk. That's not mentioned in the hard copy manual you get when you purchase the game.

I prefer push-to-talk tbh. There's not much chatter on the public servers. Occasional random conversation but usually nothing useful. No incoming call-outs, no intelligence. Guess that comes into play more when you're in a clan. I've been known to occasionally make suggestions when the team I'm on is totally hopeless. Undefended bases, no landmining, poor air cover. Pet hates really. Yesterday one of my own team mates wasted all of his grenades trying to blow up the turret I was using- I had something to say about that.

Lads has anyone got this going perfectly with an Eircom Netopia Router? Thinking of getting it tomorrow but after all the Call of Duty heartache I'm fairly sceptical. Your thoughts?

well i use it through the supplied one anyway, i have a static nat set on my router to the ps3 (all unnassigned ports goto it) and the routers firewall off and every game ive tried so far works.

I'm running a couple of PCs through the router, so turning off a firewall wont help me....although I'm not sure if a static nat makes this irrelevant, I really don't know enough about it all. Basically I like games where the online works out of the box. Anything else makes me sad.

well if it bothered you that much then you could install a firewall on the pc's but ive had no firewall for around 2 years or more now and ive never had any damage done to my pc, although i cant guarentee nothing will happen either

cos basically any data requests on boscure ports will goto the ps3 and nothing should happen since all the other systems are behind closed ports


then again im no It professional so i cant say for sure, but i would recommend you try that with COD4

Cheers for that mate. I hear what you're saying but turning off firewall really isn't an option right now. I can open ports handy enough but I'm sure my COD4 problems are part of a grander problem - if you check out the official infinity ward forums, they've about 9 stickies regarding connectivity and patches! :eek: Ah well, I'd liek to play Warhawk but as it's only multiplayer, it's be a bit of a risk.

it worked for a mate of mine on default settings if i recall,id say its optimised to work without opening ports since people are generally thick with that kind of thing so sony wouldve wanted to keeep it as user friendly as possible, i think you only need to touch the router if hosting.

i see where your coming from though not wanting to pay the 30 or 60 euro and then to have it unplayable. i have heard the COD4 horror stories myself

if using an eircom netopia router set your firewall to low not off. i know this works fine on live. that should be all you need to do.

for your pc you can use your router to assign a range of ip's rather then take anyone assigned from the dhcp server, and if you want you can even cofiigure your pc's and ps3 to use a static ip all the time. And for your ps3 you can take that static ip, and setup port forwarding so all traffic on a port of your choosing is assigned to said ip. But there is no need for this, it's overkill (unless you are settig up a pinhole for torrent traffic) - just setting the firewall to low is enough mate.

Actually COD 4 worked straight out of the box for me for a few games. Then bad things happened. I dunno. I'm trading some stuff in tomorrow I'll see hwo that goes first.
