Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hi, im part of a small bunch of people in an office. basically, i have a ripwave modem lying around and would like to share the internet with a few people from the office. (its going to be dog slow, but better than nothing).

anyway, my problem lies as follows: can i wep encrypt or whatever encryption using a simple enough password, ie, not ASCII that i have to copy paste to them?

say like: password: password1 or something like that so people can connect easily enough, but dont have to enter all kinds of characters, they arent the most computer literate people.

any recommendation on a router?i currently was trying to use a dlink 634m, but i am so frustrated with it i want to smash it to bits. anyone know how to set it up?

cant get either the wireless working or receive signal from the modem its connected to, status light just flashes orange. i tried updating its firmware to 2.01 from 1.21 but might have made a mess of things, as it said it wasnt a firmware file, but i used it to upload settings or something like that, now cant even get into the damn thing. trying to press the hole at the back to reset to factory default aint working very well, so im in the verge of throwing it out anyway, ill try again some day.

back to the point: any router capable of connecting to ripwave to give wifi signal with people connecting using word passwords instead of HEX numbers? (combination of numbers and characters?)

    cheaper the better

    thanks for all the help....

You can use a simple password if you like , but in most cases of simple passwords you may as well just leave it unsecured , as there are free utilities on the net that will get by a simple password in seconds.

Here is a checker , make a simple password and try it here , you'll see how weak some of them are ,

I would suggest using WPA PSK , thats WPA with a passkey , with this you take a phrase , something like " the quick brown fox jumps over ..." and it uses this phrase to generate a long random key. Its better than a weak password. You can use a verse from your favourite song or a passage from a book etc. Easily remembered but not as easily cracked.
