Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

sky+ signal protected

Help needed.... We got Sky+ recently, and I have to say I love it. We've recorded programs to it, that we'd like to transfer to dvd. So, we bought a Mikomi dvd player in argos, and hooked it up last night. When I tried to record from the scart lead (and later using the arial), I get the message 'signal copy protected' and it refuses to record.

Now, what we're trying to record is not sky box office, its bbc or rte. So, we decided to try a mini-experiment. When we play sky's advertisment channel (999) or we have the planner on screen, then it records fine - however, when we switch the sky box to any channel, including rte, bbc, etc, it says signal protected and doesn't record.

Is there a way around this, as we really want to record some of the programs to dvd for archiving.

    Thanks in advance.

Personally not too familiar with it but according to others Sky have copy protection on the box that stops it.

Apparently (like I said not too sure on this) the only official way to copy to DVD is to use the copy function within Sky+ on your recorded programs and it will transfer them to DVD.

Will try tonight - thanks. Was under the impression though that the copy function just lines them up to play.

Am a bit surprised that I can't record live from sky! Am only thinking of borrowing parents dvd recorder to see if its a recorder problem.

Surely if you have the recorder between the box and the tv it will record in analog mode ? If your tv can read the signal a recorder can... ?

not necessarily - Macrovision will stop recorders from recording but TVs ignore the Macrovision signal.

that said, you shouldn't have any problem recording off your Sky+ box - you can use the Copy function in the planner (though at the moment it has problems with widescreen programmes) or just play the programme and hit record - I've done it loads of times without any issues. Sounds like your DVD player is dodgy in some way...

You might get more joy posting this query on the satellite board (or on digitalspy.co.uk)
