    Take a look at these little f**kers, they r eatin my tree !! Am I right that these are caterpillars? Is their anything I can do? I suppose its a bit late in the year now as it will be loosing its leaves in the next month or so... but for next year?

    Saw this on previous thread

    get a squirty bottle e.g. frebreeze bottle, place a load of cig. butts or new cigs, fill with water and leave over night. the next day just spray the gooseberries with the solution. the auld caterpillars hate the smell/taste - trust me it works.

    Would this work?

    Yeah, it could do alright. I have heard that method mentioned for fruiting bushes/plants more than trees.

    There was one on here recently, ah a good while ago.

    get an insecticide spray from garden centre and spray every 2 weeks untill leaf drop. when the leaves drop off collect them and throw them out

    They're larvae of the sawfly and they're a pain in the bum.

    might you run the risk of birds eating them and being posioned, though?
