hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows how to look after homing pigeons.

one turned up in our garden about 2 weeks ago and has not gone away since, we rang the vet and he told us that because it has been gone so long now from its owner if the owner got it back they would prob put it to sleep as it is no good to him. and there is no way we want to let that happen.

he is such a friendly little guy, he sits on our roof all day long and if you hold food in your hand he comes down, sits on your hand and eats it.

so pretty much we own this bird now, but we really have no idea how to care for it. we are feeding it sunflower seeds and nuts and there is water out for it. we dont know where it sleeps yet, but we were considering building a coup for it, is this a good idea??

any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

    thanks,
    nic.

you should be able to get corn in the pet shop for the pigeon . you could build a small loft for him now that he keeps coming back to your house (homing) just let him out every morning and leave a small hatch open with a landing board so he can get back in when he wants to. just watch out for cats ??

there not too much maintenance on them well besides the cleaning of your shed cos it will stink, just get some food from your local vet and let it out when you can... maybe i am mistaken but i havent heard of the owner putting the pigeon down
