Recognised psychometric training courses?

    Hey

I've been looking at a few assistant psychologist posts and one of them mentioned that they required applicants to have completed a recognised psychometric training course. Now I've covered some forms of testing as part of my degree but obviously not to such a high level. I've had a quick look online and have noticed that the BPS do accredit some courses in the UK. Does anybody know of any in Ireland?
    Thanks!

OU do Psychometric testing as an elective module in its MSC Psych programme - but you would need to be a grad to do it I think.

OU is a distance/adult educational institute. Based in the UK but you can do the courses from wherever you're living.

SHL do 3 day courses in Stillorgan park hotel every month or so...

As far as I know, while Psychometrics is part of every undergrad and most postgrad psychology courses, none of these provide you with the BPS Admin, A, B, B+ and Educational testing qualifications (see here). It is perfectly possible to obtain training in the use of many instruments (particularly those used in the HR field) without having BPS accreditation. However, if an employer is specifically looking for BPS accreditation, that is the qualification you need to obtain/possess.

I think they're looking for something similar to what the BPS do but the PSI don't seem to have their own version. The SHL course looks good but I think it's aimed more at human resources personnel. I think I'll leave it for the moment and then if I end up doing a masters or PhD soon I should cover it anyhow.

    Thanks guys!

As far as I remember, I saw ETC Consult in Dublin advertising the BPS courses at some stage; don't know if they still do it, or if it was just a once off. Everyone I know who has the BPS qualifications did them in the UK because it was cheaper, and you could combine the courses back-to-back so it wasn't so disruptive for work.

Please advise what you come across if anything? Would be very interested as behavioural analysis was why I got into Psych in first place!

The PSI do have their own version and run courses in psychometrics for members. Contact them about it.
