GPS project

Hello, hopefully somebody can help me here

Im thinking of starting a project now using GPS technology. The aim is to have a GPS chip that will interface with an ARM board to be used while out running. I want it to record distance travelled and time taken and send the information back onto my webpage. Once I get the basics of it I'll come up with different ways of building the project up, but for the minute I just need an idea of which chip to use and where to buy it. Im hoping for a fairly cheap solution. It doesn't need to be extremely accurate...

I don't really know anything about GPS right now, so if anybody can help it would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Brian

Might be a bit easier to just get a Garmin Forerunner 305 then you get a heart rate monitor as well. ;)

Maybe you could write an app for a phone with gps, they will tell you distance travelled , so all you have to so is persuade it to up it to the server

ya, I've seen them alright. I need to make something for a final year project, and if i can make something similar to that, without the heart monitor i'll be happy! I just don't know where to start. Just wondering if anybody here knows...

A lot of GPS manufacturers (TomTom, Garmin etc) use chips made by SiRF:

however the TomTom One uses a chip made by Global Locate.

Garmin Forerunner 305 (mentioned below) uses a SiRF starIII chip

Above all that, I haven't a clue which chip would suit your application best, or where to get one (or how much they cost), but the above links might give you a start. Good luck!
