OK people, Phantom is nearly a year on the air (legally-wise) so who do we think is good - and I suppose we shoudl also be saying who do we think should be sent back to the garden shed?

    I'll start

    The Best

Edel Coffey - I think she's really got a grip on her show and it works so well. Great interviews as well (enjoyed her Josh Ritter piece on Friday)

John Cadell - Great, great music - really knows how to put a set together.

Richie Ryan - not bad for a Hammers fan! I really didnt think football and indie music could work as well as this.

Richie McCormack - He really should have a daytime week-day show.

Jim Carroll - far and away, the best music show on the station - he always plays stuff that has you wondering "what the hell was that?"

Pearl - the best hangover cure of all

Nadine O'Regan - smart and listener-friendly arts coverage

    The Garden Shed

Sinister Pete - I know he's an acquired taste, but Jesus, I've been trying for a year and still dont get it.

The specialist shows - All seem to be riffing off the same heavy rock/metal notes, why isn't there more variety here?

Jack Hyland - sounds as if he doesn't have a clue about the music he is playing unless it's pre-1995

    The best:
#1 John Caddell - Bedrock : a good mix of music and he throws in a lot of stuff, especially during the mellow hour, which you would normally not hear on the station. Definitely quality music from a very articulate well-informed guy.

#2 It's a toss-up between (a) Phantom Daily with Simon Maher - great discussions interspersed with good alternative music- only regret: I'm usually working when he is and I don't get to hear him.
    (b) Random Access with Steve Conway - good broadcaster with a show where you have a good chance at hearing more obscure, or older stuff - whatever you fancy basically! He has a great voice.
    (c) Ritchie McCormack on Saturdays - very quick-witted and well-informed guy.
    (d) Stadium Rock with Ritchie Ryan - another good voice to listen to with an interesting mixture of music. Although not a big sports fan, it does not bother me too much when he does the sports results. Test of a good broadcaster!

#3 Pure Morning with Sinister Pete - I like his Canadian laid-back manner and dry wit. I find his traffic reports can be quite amusing at times.

#4 Heavy Traffic with Jack Hyland - Very funny guy with an interesting mix of music.

I'm very reluctant to be negative. Suffice to say that I enjoy practically all the programs on Phantom. The only ones I have reservations about are the following programs and these are to do with music genres - I have no issue with the presenters:
#1 Metal Notes with Ray McGowan
    #2 Blitz with Micko
#3 Sunday Morning Down with Pearl
I hope that's clear - I certainly do not want to offend anyone.

    Great thread Window Cleaner........

Well for me, there is no contest, its got to be the "Chas and Dave" of Phantom - the two Richies (Richie Ryan and Richie McCormack) - my fave part each week is when they do there little banter chat in between McCormacks show and Ryan's Stadium Rock......this pair should be definately given a daily show together, they have great chemistry and really bounce off each other. Programme Director, do something about this pronto!!! Get them on air together more often! Stadium rock itself is wicked....."The ode to Jose" this week was priceless and the mix of great music and sport is a winning combo....plus, its the added touches that keep this show new and exciting....I love it! :)

Other than that, I also enjoy Simon Maher's Phantom Daily.....good mix of banter and music en route home from work!
