****e on Sunday, last monthly medal and got pipped for GOTY. In fairness, the guy who won it was 10 points behind and the only possible person who could beat me. Both finished on same points but he had two wins (and the other one he won was on a countback with me again lol). Good to see someone able to shoot a score under pressure.
I know my form is poor lately but was good in Aug/Sept ish. Such is golf.
I'm in the final of the club matchplay and need to play very well in that to have a chance, giving 7 shots to a lovely golfer... ah well.

I played Elm Hall 9-hole course in Celbridge yesterday afternoon. Playing off 20, I scored 21 points and shot 43, my best yet.

    Par
    Double bogey
    Triple bogey
    Bogey
    Par
    Par
    Par
    Par
    Bogey

If I hadn't driven into the trees on 2 and 3 it could have been really spectacular. I have improved a lot this year, going from shooting around 105, down to early 90s. I have broken 45 a few times when just playing 9 holes. Must keep it up during the winter...

sounds like you're having a good end to the season mate!

Very happy with the way i am hitting the ball Graeme i am going to work on my short game over the winter and play in the tuesday comps in Portmarnock links. Great to get a full 18 hole round during the winter months. How is your own short game now??

Played my first game of golf in 10 years yesterday. Went to leopardstown as I didnt want anything too taxing! ;) Totally sliced my first shot of the day with about 20 odd people watching and was shaky going out. Coming in I was a lot more relaxed and managed 4 pars, 4 bogeys and a double bogey. Finished 21 over which was too bad considering I had no golf shoes, my brothers old clubs with barely any grip, and a slight hangover ;) PIty I'm just getting back into it when the winter is about to start!

Getting there mate. Broke 30 putts for the first time this season at the weekend. Took 27 with a three putt. I can feel it improving slowly. Gonna get a couple of lessons over the winter and try to play once a week too. Hopefully that will get me right for next season. Last comp this sunday... last chance to get down to 5 for the season.

Well if you have played to 5 all year and were not happy with the short game imagine what you will be capable of next year when your short game really improves.

If i were you i would not rule out playing pitch and putt good crack great for the short game.

Who do you normally get lessons from?

    15 hole comp - yesterday

disastrous start, 5 pts after 5, the 4.30am Sat night and copious glasses of wine were strangling me.

Anyway birdied 6th hole par 5 then had 21 points on back 9 to finish level with 30pts for 15 holes (hcap 8). delighted with recovery but not driving the ball well, couldnt find the right tempo

    lovely to get out though

Athy a couple of weeks ago for me, conditions not great, scored 39 points to take home the captains prize from my society :D

A somewhat frustrating game for me on Saturday. Had 36 points but below is how I managed it! Managed to go around the last 12 holes in 5 over par. Have gone up to 16 this year and am consistantly playing to my handicap in all competitions, but if I could get rid of the stupid mistakes on a few holes feel I could get down to 12/13 without changing to much

    1st Par
2nd Scratch (lost my second shot OB and then lost the head!)
3rd Scratch (Lost my first drive, knocked down the second)
    4th Bogey
    5th Bogey
6th Scratch (decent drive but ended up behind a tree and then proceeded to hit the tree and send the ball about 3 feet behind me still behind the tree)
    7th Par
    8th Par
    9th Par
    10th Par
    11th Bogey
    12th Par
    13th Double Bogey
    14th Par
    15th Bogey
    16th Par
    17th Par
    18th Bogey

    Sweet shooting there...

We had our final 18 hole stableford comp this weekend and Sunday morning sure was lovely out, though a bit breezy.... first wooly hat day of the season. Had become a little browned off of golf lately (heresy I know, especially here) but was out in a nice threeball - 3, 5 & 7 handicappers.
35 points for me but managed to find the birdies that eluded me lately... and believe me, I need them to mask a few mistakes. 5 birdies and two scratches... after a par, bogey, bogey, bogey start had me pleased anyway...

There was a nearest the pin contest on a par three and I hit a sweet shot that pitched 5 ft short, right on line but ended up 5' 3" past, thought I was going to have my first ace.... someone had 4'7"... bah, and I missed the put too ;)

i've actually never had a lesson in my life.

i might play a bit of pitch and putt over the winter. get my short game sorted out again. my putting as attocious on sunday. i hit 15 greens in reg, three putted 5 times, only scored one birdie, and racked up 37 putts in total. serious problems on the green! didn't know whether to laugh or cry at times. 3 putts from 6 feet on one hole... could have snapped the bloody putter!!

Ended up with 35 points. That was the last singles 18 hole comp of the season though. Up another 0.1 which leaves me on 5.8. Started it at 5.0. Pretty disappointing really. Much work to do!

I have always had problems with my downswing but i got a few lessons and finally feel that i am on the right track and have got the feel of what starts the down swing.
Not easy at first but i kept at it.

I get lessons from b.p at portmarnock driving range check out his website for prices and really good downloads.

last club comp of the season. score 36pts with four 1pointers and scratch on the 18th. was going pretty good up to the 14th (29pts) then missed putt for bogey. pretty much fell apart after that.

cant seem to get a conisistent full round of golf in. now playing of 18.6. stuck with it for the winter now :(

I'm playing the way I usually play.....I won overall about 6 weeks ago and since then cant hit the ball out of my way. I've had a 102 in strokes, and a 7 down and 4 down in V par.

This is the consistency that plagues my game, I'm consistently rubbish. BTW, I was off 17.4, got cut to 16.2 and at the end of the month will be off 17 again for the winter, thanks to the sh!t rounds I'm having. However I will try and stop the rot this weekend...here's hoping!

    15 hole comp (stableford)

    +1 front nine
    +3 last 6

    +4 total

Was raging - three of the bogeys came from taking 4 shots from 80 yards in, three heavy pitches on each of the holes, bad chips and 2 putts

fecking mind games with myself, standing over each shot thinkin (birdie birdie birdie........)

lovely to get out, there were fellas playing in short sleeves (november!!)

14 hole comp yesterday. haven't sturck the ball as good in a long time.

Ended up with 27 points despite knocking one out of bounds and three putting twice from within 12 feet.

It was my first round with my new putter, so happy enough. Unbelieveable how much better it felt with the new one. Can't wait to get used to it.

Played Shannon Golf Club on Saturday, 14 points on front 9, my ball striking was as bad as its ever been, recovered somewhat on the back 9 scoring 18 points thanks to some good putts. Very disappointing overall, need some advice, so gonna get a lesson. My first ever one.

A variation on the old fashioned pub crawl, where scores are awarded for the number of strokes (gulps) it takes you to finish your pint in each pub.
    How to play:

For this game you will need a judge and some paper and a pen to write down scores. At each pub players buy a pint and then must consume it in as few sips as possible in front of the judge. For instance if they down their pint in one there score for that hole is one. If it takes them 3 attempts to finish their beer, their score is 3 for that hole.

At the end of the last hole, the person with the lowest score wins. When approaching the final hole if two players are "tied" for the lead the last hole becomes a speed hole, with the first person to finish their pint deemed the winner.

Girls have to consume full pints in the first and last pubs, but may drink 1/2 pints in all the other pubs.

    I scored 29 over 9 holes!!!!:D:D

An 82 gross in Dundalk yesterday in trying conditions. The opening five holes are testing (some long par 4's), but I have to say the greens were in a terrible state. 2 birdies and two 3-putts.

Played last Thursday morning in St. Margarets after being up and down all night with the winter vomiting virus and scored 32 points, which wasn't bad I thought, considering.

I still can't believe they still don't have any toilet facilites on that course :o

83 gross in Dun Laoghaire last Friday morning. Played the Lower and Upper nines off the yellow stakes. Course is in great condition but would have preferred to play off the next set of tees back as my bro and I were regularly hitting our drives out over the fairway bunkers. Greens were in decent nick but very slow.

Finally, what a clubhouse. Like a hotel, very classy. Members have their own gym, separate practice range, short game area, underground car park housing 50 golf buggies, sauna, and bowling green.

37 pts since again in Lahinch. Handicap now down to 6, and a new conforming driver (R7) is now in the bag.

What a start to 2008!!! Playing in a winter comp yesterday, shotgun start so starting on the par 3 17th, i shanked a 5 iron into the trees.

    It can only get better.

shot 72 (level par) in craddockstown gc in naas.
played well hit 12/18 greens had 32 putts didn't do too much wrong but not too much great either soo was an ok round! was just happy to be hitting my new 15* 906f2 titleist really well!! :)

Level par in C'town? That's a great score berni mac. Looking at your stats, it looks like your short game was on song alright.

Haven't played in '08 yet. Had a heavy night out with the lad a couple of weeks back, and must have slept in a weird position in the leaba that night because the next day my neck was in bits! Still suffering 10 days later so went to a chiropractor this evening to see if they could sort me out. First visit to one of these and found it pretty uncomfortable as each "adjustment" was carried out.

    Dying for a game too.

    well chaps, yesterday it clicked

    15 hole fourball club comp

-3 gross for 15 holes, 5 birdies, 1 double bogey

42 points on my own card, 44 points in fourball

I still cant believe how I struck the ball so well, small change in weight transfer on back swing has worked wonders, annoyed I didn't finish the last 3 holes, as they're straight forward, short par 4, par 3 and birdie chance on the last, par 5. Could have been my first and possibly only chance to break 70!

    handicap is 9

Golf is an amazing game as on Saturday I kept messing up, finished with 85 gross for 18 holes, wasn't focused at all and then to go out sunday and...welll...I'm still in shock!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Mister Sifter

How's the early 2008 golf going?

I've played in my club's winter league the last 2 weeks and it's been pretty so far.

21 points for 12 holes both weeks. Can only get better...

Haven't really played that much, was in Thailand over Xmas and new year, played once out there and the greens were like lightning, absolutely incredible, nice course, great caddies, golf over there highly recommended!
Played the European Club on Saturday, 27pts off the whites with a decent wind, was happy enough considering how little I've played, won the money aswell:D
Great course, also highly recommended.Beautiful back nine.
Playin winter league this sat so we'll see how that goes..
