Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Set Vista dialog box default folder

Everytime I open a dialog box in Vista to download a file from Outlook, it defaults to a network folder I don't use. Is there an easy way to set the default directory to another folder or my desktop?

While I'm at it - is there a way to set the default view of all folders to Details? Thanks

Surprised that noone has thoughts on this - is it that this can't be done or that it's so obvious I should know it already?

Not sure about the underlying mechanism and how it works but in my own experience the default is either the last folder you opened a file from or saved to.

For the view mode details as default that is another odd one as Vista has a (very annoying) feature built in were it will change the view mode based on the content to what it thinks is the optimal view mode (music, pictures etc) while it will respect your chosen view mode, certain actions will set it off and attempt to guess the optimal view mode again.

You can disable this feature by bringing up the properties of a folder and selecting customize tab by default it will probably be set to "pictures and video" so you need to change it to "All Items" & tick the box for apply to sub-folders as well.

Now to set the global default view well open explorer click views->details

Now click Organize-Folder and Search Options->View and apply to all folders

Also if you scroll down in the same window you may or may not want to tick the box for "remember each folder's view settings" as this can also mess with the view mode.
