Put White wine or Club Soda and then cover it with salt.

The liquid should loosen the stain a bit and then the salt should soak it up.

I know it works on fresh stains, not sure about older ones but worth a try

Just don't scrub and rub it in, try to pat the stain to lift it :)

there is actually a red wine stain remover available. I know you can get it in O'briens the off license so I presume you can buy in other places... It actually works too!

Who the hell mentioned CILIT BANG?

Cilit Bang, Oxy Action, White Wine, Soda Water are all bollicks.

You'll have to buy more red wine and pour it on all the carpet, so it all changes colour and therefore there is no more stain.

    I'm not Barry Scott.

    Eh no.

Get more red wine. Enough to cover the whole room.

Pour it on the carpet, so the whole carpet is now the colour of red wine, and the original stain is gone.

All them things like Cilit Bang, OxyAction, Whie Wine, Soda Water etc etc are old wives tales anyway, and don't work.

You'll either still have a stain, or a patch on your carpet that is lighter than the original, and just as unsightly.

With my method, the whole carpet will be the same colour again.

Isn't there a stain removal or house keeping forum or something?

Can someone point me in the direction of it so that I can move this thread.

An insurance claim for a new carpet. Get the money, spend it all on drink, place coffee table on top of stain. This method is tried and tested.;)

white wine will only work if the stain is fresh. If the stain is old its probably deep in the carpets fibres by now. Best buy one of the shop products to get it out and use some elbow grease.

Failing that and you must get it out for deposit returns reasons etc, get the professionals in. Costs around 100-150e.

Go to the carpet shop and see if they have a off cut of the carpet in the house.

Purchase this off cut and a stanley knife.

    Go home.

Cut the offending stain out of the carpet, and then cut a piece from the off cut to fit the hole.

You obviously know nothing about wine or carpets.

Carpet shops have a selection of wine coloured carpets. You have to cut the stained bit out, take it to the carpet shop and they will cut an identical hole in one of their wine-coloured carpets. I had this done last week and you can't see any trace of the join.

    No no no!
Right product, wrong method of application. You drink all the wine. Then you look at the carpet and think "ah f*ck it, its grand..."
    Problem solved. :D
