How difficult is it get an engine from one manufacturer to fit in another chassis?

I want to source a hayabusa (relatively easy to get) engine and get a drivetrain kit from the likes of west field etc. and fit it in another chassis, think megabusa with roof, maybe an old elise with a knackered engine.

This is the very early stages of research but its something id love to do, and its not idle sh*te talk either as cars and bikes are my main passion, and I like to go ahead with what I say I'd like to do.

What are the logistics of a project like this? I would have a few friends with the facilities but I'd want to do as much as I can.

Am I dreaming or are complicated parts like these possible to use in different cars.

Is this just the realm of the full time mechanic and enthusiast?

Why not post on a modifed car site looking for advice??

    Try:

    www.manic-motorz.com
    www.racershaven.com
    www.dtdirl.com

A few people in there will tell you exactly what you need!

Its very possible esp since you have facilities available to you , but it may go into some things easier than others.
    Have a look here : http://home.no.net/ahagst/Minisidene.htm

Maybe this should be moved to modified cars?

I thought motors refered to actual engines, :)

Is there a specialised engines section anywhere as the modding section seems to be more about aesthetics?

Given time, enthusiasm, expertise (or at least a willingness to research and learn), and money (to a greater or lesser degree), anything can be done.
This sort of thing is very much the realm of the enthusiast though, as most regular people couldn't afford to pay a mechanic to do it; the time involved is enormous.
You'll need to have somewhere to work on it where you can just drop tools, walk out, and lock the door. Trying to do it in a corner of a busy working workshop will only lead to grief and strained relationships with buddies.
A bunch of stuff will have to be mated up, things like the cooling, electrical, exhaust, and fuel systems, along with a host of other unanticipated stuff, so you'll be getting to know the stores of your local motor factors quite well as you mix and match all sorts of things.

This kind of thing is well with the capabilities of the enthusiastic tinkerer, so if you're happy and confident doing standard spanner work, I'd say to go ahead and do it.

Any other companies providing drivetrains bar westfield?

I just came across the SR8, a v8 derived from two busa motors, the engine I always dreamed of, how much will that set me back...

A crashed busa would make a good start and an elise chassis with the old, rover engine, would do nicely. This would provide two complete vehicles to splice, its the mating of the engine to the drive that will be the actual challenge.

Edit: Reverse gear, West field etc. should have a box that fits the engine.

About 25k€ starters, surely it would be possible to make a profit on such a project eventually also.

There are so many cars out there that I can see that this has been done to, its just how to get it to work.

It will be at least two years before I can fund this though, which depresses me, so I will quietly reserch and avoid becomming the sort that talk about something until they convince themselves not to do it.

    Surely it can be done.

Moved to modified cars. Or should I have moved it to motorbikes?

Is that mad night rider man who gets a kick out of being filmed with his busa speedo displaying 299km/h still alive btw?

    Ghost Rider?

Yep, as far as I know.

If you google him these days you get some comic book cgi **** with nic cage.

Pity, because the real ghost rider is far better!:D
