Similar thing nearly happened to me a few months ago. Was cycling home from town with a suit in one hand (I know!), it was in a suit cover bag thingy. In and out in rush hour traffic not a bother, until I came to the final kerb near my house, suit got caught in the front wheel and I almost went over the bars! suit & me were fine, bag was torn to bits.

I thought this was going to be a thread showing the correct techniques for falling off a bike. Has anybody got links to such a guide? I am thinking like how they train martial arts guys to fall and not injure themselves.

This is the reason why I don't cycle through puddles if at all avoidable!

I haven't had a fall like that in years thank god...

I just don't get the 'cycling with umbrella' thing that seems so common in the east. It is just wrong - no matter how bad the rain, I'd rather just get wet than lose one hand to an umbrella.

    That looks rather painful...

It's funny i've only ever seen 2 people cycling along with their umbrella's up, and both were of an oriental persuasion... Is it a cultural thing in china/japan to use umbrellas whilst cycling? How much good would they do? You'd still be getting wet from all sides...

only really any use if there is no wind otherwise it would get pulled all over, and most rainy days here are windy
