All and any comments are welcome - prices are in UK STG, but I hope to stay under 1000 stg... Prices correct as of last week...

    Overclockers.co.uk Prices

    CPU & FAN: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 "LGA775 Conroe" 3.00GHz (1333FSB) £180

    MOTHERBOARD: EVGA nForce 680i SLi (Socket 775) (122-CK-NF68-A1) £176

    MEMORY: Crucial Ballistix 2x1GB DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz (BL2KIT12864AA804) £ 90

    GRAPHICS CARD: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 (640-P2-E821-AR) £250

    HDD: Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 NCQ 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache £ 68

CASE: NZXT Zero Crafted Series Aluminium Full Tower £ 94

PSU: OCZ GameXStream 850w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply £135

    TOTAL: £993

Future plan is buy another EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 (640-P2-E821-AR) and team this for SLI, and then might even overclock the CPU so this is the part I am totally not sure of though...

Hey, all looking good apart from a few things.

Get a samsung spinpoint 500gb, its cheaper and quieter. And will last longer.

Drop that case, it looks okay, but the cooling is not up to par. Something like a antec 900 will be more suited for your hot running components.

Dont bother with OCZ psu's they arnt the best. Plus 850W is way over the top for what you need. A corsair 500W or 620W psu Will do easilly. And will still both be fine if you add in a few hdds, and another 8800.

If you are going to overclock the CPU get a Thermalrite ultra 120 extreme, with a 1600rpm scythe s-flex. As the reference cooler wont allow you to overclock to your potential.

As for the motherboard, hold out a few more weeks for a few more x38 motherboards to be releasd to the consumer. They are better overclockers with good cooling, and offer more support and options.

Well he wants the option of SLI down the road so stick with the EVGA board as the X38 won't support SLI but rather X-fire.
Why not go for the q6600..sure you can reach 3.0ghz on this easily..the extra fsb isn't worth a great deal more performance.
