Can anyone recommend a company which will supply and fit double-glazed inserts for existing wooden frames? Most companies appear to want to supply new windows rather than refurbish old ones.

    Thanks.

The depth of the rebate in the existing window is for a single pane so a decent DG pane may not fit well and the edging may be visible. In addition if existing panes held in with putty, mucho work in gettin them out.

Unless the system you are offered is "drained and ventilated" I wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole. I have seen installations where the frame is routed out, a double glazed unit put in and timber 'slips' pinned into the frame to hold the glass in place. Possibly a cap-bead of silicone if you are lucky. This is an accident waiting to happen as any moisture that gets in behind the bead has nowhere to get out and it will inevitably degrade the IGU sealent resulting in failure of the seal and a fogged IGU.

    Is mise le meas,
    Monty
