If it was me right now and I had 3k to spend, I would get, or wait for one if I had to, a 1080p/24fps/100mHz LCD.

New samsungs f86 and f96 have been receiving good reviews.

40 inch f96 wont be avail in europe for a while.

40 f86 has been shipping in the uk for the last 2 weeks, and looks like the best 40 inch lcd atm. Might save you a few pennies at around 1550 euro plus 100 shipping.

Have not heard of any reviews on vartate.com but 1staudiovisual are a good online shop to deal with. http://www.1staudiovisual.co.uk/catalog/samsung-le40f86bdx-inch-p-2301.html

Another TV I would consider is the Kuro PDP-4280HD.

If I had the cash I'd probably buy something like a Philips 42PFL9732D.
Within your budget, 1080P, 100Hz. Looks stunning with Ambilight(don't let people tell you its a gimmick) and you'll have change to buy a HDDVD/BLUray player for it.

My one bit of advice though; if your splashing out on a nice new piece of kit, you have to accept that something better, and something cheaper will be on the market within 6 months. Its just a fact of life with technology these days. Accept this fact BEFORE you purchase, otherwise you'll never be happy with what you bought!
