I'm never usually one to comment on reg plates showing, I don't see the point in general but in this case maybe you should blank them out. Insurance companies wouldn't be too happy to see this. In fairness the drivers should know better and tape them up when on the circuit.

Its none of the insurance companies business, its on private ground, and every one of us knows that our policies don't cover us.

True but they could cancel your insurance if pics like this were seen.

    No, they couldn't.

If they saw you and you claimed for an "overturned car very near Mondello" they might ask a question or two.

If next week, touch wood, one of these lads is involved in a crash nowhere near a race track then what they did today has no bearing on the future.

Any policy says "this does not include racing etc" it does not say "if you ever go on a race track and 2 weeks down the line you need a claim you're not covered".

IIRC those Figaro's were only about for a few years, and origionally only two colours, blue and green.

There are 4 colours: Topaz Mist, Emerald Green, Pale Aqua and Lapis Grey. They were only sold in Japan in the early 90s and have become a bit of a collectors item, they only made 20,000. There is only one importer for them in Ireland. He got a couple dozen of them last year and won't be getting any more. As soon as they run out, that's it. They are set to be a future classic. Lovely little cars, I would buy one if I had the money.

Maybe you're right but I have heard stories of insurance companies attending track days and scouring the like of octane.ie for exactly this reason. Maybe they were just that - stories. Personally I wouldn't take the chance. Anyhow - this is off-topic and it is not usually something I would comment on but in this instance I thought it should be noted.

    End of!

Listen Steve - I don't really give a Fcuk, I almost never enter the 'Number Plate' debate and now I certainly never will again. The only reason I raised the point in the first place was to alert enthusiasts to the 'POSSIBILITY' of this happening to one of them, be it unfounded or not.

You can get Figaros from a number of sources here and in the UK, or import them directly yourself. There's no great shortage of them at this stage - there's usually a couple for sale in Ireland at any time.

Nice mondello pics - pity their prices for a track day are so high! Anybody know of somewhere affordable, or am I just going to have to hop on the ferry to the 'Ring as planned this summer? :D

By that logic the track day works out alot cheaper, personally i wouldn't put my car out on mondello its a very tough track on a car,but i would drive the ring all weekend long again and again.

I wouldn't be counting the drive/ferry over as part of the cost because for me that'd be part of the fun, epic roadtrip = epic holiday for me. Might not be everybody's cup of tea, but I'd gladly just hop in the car and drive across the continent!

I agree i did it last summer 3,111 miles (The Ring included)

I think its IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) in Kilmainham. I read somewhere recently that they were displaying one of the BMW 'Art' cars from the 70s

I'm working right at the Park Gate street entrance of the Park, there's a few of em always in and out, they escort Mary Mac outta the park most mornings. Saw a 07 Audi A6 and a (Silver I think) BMW 5 series unmarked around that area, assume they keep the fancy cars in the Garda HQ

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭mle1324

well from what i heard it was a armed response garda car

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,195 ✭✭✭MarkN

They have unmarked Volvo S60s and 5 series and have done for ages, usually in convoys of VIPs.

    Here's what I saw today.

    Those lights are HORRRRRRRRIBLE!!!

And yeah that looks like a 318i above.
I've spotted a few unmarked BMWs around myself. Always on the look out.

Eh, the aero body kit doesn't float my boat.. The chickenwire intake on the front, and the new scoops added by the skirt, which could serve no purpose other than to swallow up unsuspecting roadkill...

I believe they have about 15 - 20 BMW 318i and a couple of 525d's, most used for immigration from what I was told, basic enough spec but have Sat Nav??
