Couldn't tell ya what they're used for! But I see 3 or 4 of em everyday flyin out of the park with a S class Merc in the middle and a few Garda bikes stoppin traffic. Can only assume its the president because the S class has a Blue flag (could be the EU flag) on one side and an Irish flag on the other.

They bought 35 BMWs about 2 years ago. 318's, 525d's and I think 320d's aswell. They seem to be rarely seen though.

The gardai have two S350's for McAleese and Cowen and I've seen a 7 series escourting McAleese in the park aswell.

Depending on your monitor it could be hard to see the air intakes the owner has also stuck on the wings. That's worse than the badge.

One of the 525d's was in our place a good while ago, they put some filiment accross the back window so if another car is travelling behind them with the lights blaring it doesnt blind the driver, but when they were putting it on someone cut around the edge of the window but managed to cut the wires for the rear window de-mister at the same time. I believe the 318i's were upgraded to 150/170BHP?? by BMW, the 320i and 318i and had pretty much the same engine except for the engine management chip so they changed them, i think Maxwells did all the PDI's at the time. All the reg's are like 06D18112 or 18012 we got a list of them for servicing. You can see the blue lights though behind the kidney grills. I have only seen one on the road though that i recognised.

Look at this for a price difference!

Didn't they say on Top Gear that the Manual was something like 10k more too, well that was the DB9 anyway. Cant imagine the Charles Hurst one comes with windy uppy windows and poverty spec wheels! 60 bloody grand!
