Bottle green Chevy? Can't say I do! Where was it? I know of three Chevy Camaro's out northside, one light blue, one yellow and black and one burgundy. There's a Bullit Green Mustang Fastback out that way too!

Dame Street. To be fair I didn't get a great look as I was cycling but I sure did hear and feel the engine as it went by! It just said chevy v8 on the back

Why are here so many classic US muscle cars around these days ? I'm noticing more than I ever did

I really don't like it when people go around sticking performance badges on standard cars.
    BMW 320is with M badges.
2l Audi A4s with RS or S badges.
2.3l Mercedes with AMG or Brabus badges.

Its like screaming out to everyone I wanted to buy an M3 but I can only afford a 320i...

That Brabus had a Brabus front end and two double brabus exhausts on the back, brabus emblem front seats and a funky steering wheel. Not just a simple badge in this case.

The clio ottostreet posted is a 3.0 V6 I think. SV owns a 172 sport clio (2 litre). You'll know his because he said he smoked his indicators not so long again.

Does it actually have any engine mods? Doesnt matter if he has a front bumber and 20 badges, if it has no proper engine mods it's no better than any other 320.

its amazing how american engineers cannot get their engine to rev.. i mean a 6k redline these days?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,171 ✭✭✭af_thefragile

Thats cuz most american V8s are heavy cast iron lumps. It gives them the characteristic "lazy" low end power/torque which give the car that muscle car feel. Most of the power comes at 2500rpm so you press on the accelerator and the car lazily moves away with a lot of tyre smoke.

Very different from the Ferrari V8s which (in the 458) can rev to 9k rpm. They made from light aluminium and other exotic stuff, which make them rev faster and upto higher rpm. In these cars most power is at the top end 6000-7000rpm which give them that supercar feel with the engine constantly above 5000rpm while racing it on the track.

It the American style, cheap to produce, unstressed and easy to maintain at home. I'd say the limiter is at ~6.5k rpm as it makes peak power at 6k rpm. Not many high displacement engines rev high, take BMW for example and exclude the modern generation of M motors (V10 M5, V8 M3, V6 M3) and nearly all of their 6 & 8 clyinder engines make peak power at ~6k rpm :)
