Don't always judge a car by what the odometer reads.

A car that has 100k miles on it and spent it's entire life on motorways maybe in better mechanical order than a car with only 30k miles driven by an old granny to the shops who grinds every gear all the way there and back.

Judge a car also on it's current condition and the service history.

Don't trust what the odometer says also. Get a competent & trustworthy mechanic to give the car the once over before you hand over the readies!

with the average pegged at 12K, at what average would you walk away from buying a car - everything else being equal?

    16K, 20K?

(I have a 2003, 80k, full service history in mind)
