    Contention!

Over 200kb/s for a file to download sounds about right. You will NEVER get 2mb/s! Your connection, should be connected in or around 2mb/s however.

You are getting 220KB/s on a download not 220Kb/s

    whats the differance?

Neon circle, i did a speed test on speedtest.net

    download was 1.75 mb

The small b stands for bits, and the big B, for bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte, so 50KB/sec = 400Kb/sec

On a 2Meg line you should be connected at 2048Kb/s, divide that by 8 to get the equivalent in Bytes, 2048/8 = 256KB/s. Thats what you should get on a download but you lose a bit due to overheads, contention and noise.

Thats 1750Kb/s which means your max download should be 218KB/s

up to 48:1 contention on eircom 1 and 2mb connections goes down on their 3mb connections
