I was in my friends house tonight keeping her company cos her bf was working. We were watching tv and one of those halifax ads came on - ya know with that harold guy with the big glasses dancing around singing like a twerp and putting diff lyrics to popular songs

Anyway i said "oh jesus this twit again these ads wreak my head" and she actually got thick and said i was being racist and asked me to leave

I dont know weather to be angry or bemuased!

hope I don't drag this thread off-topic but you seem to imply that because your Irish Caucasian (white) has a boyfriend that is Chinese this excludes her from the possibility of being a racist. Simply this isn't true and is putting 2 and 2 together to get 5. I'm sure your friend isn't racist or more likely maliciously racist but there is a chance that she has something against black people/white people/other people etc. Actually this all rather simplistic and I'm not explaining it very well so I'll just shut up.

As others have said if you dislike someone (whether they be a character in an ad or in real life) and they happen to be black it isn't racist. It's only racist if you dislike them because they are black. It might have been nice if your friend established why you didn't like this character instead of deciding it was racist. You might want to text her and explain the difference and tell her what an idiot she is.

I once had an argument with a black guy in a pub and he played the race card. He said I had a problem as he was black. I had to explain to him that I had a problem with him as he was an arsehole and his colour was irrelevant.

Pepper, I fail to see how a remark about perhaps the most hated man to ever appear on daytime tv (overexageration perhaps ) could be construed as racism. That guy makes me shudder with anger and jump on the remote to turn to any other channel when he appears on the box.
