Does anyone else get sick to the back teeth of people who think they are a great driver or know all there is to know about cars because they drive a certain type of car ?

I notice it a lot here on boards too that people try to prove they are an authority on cars by stating what they drive.

I have to admit I have looked at certain cars and said to myself "That lad mustn't have a feckin clue to have bought that" - but that kinda on the other end of the scale.

    Anyone else find this ?

three friends of mine recently did a day in mondello driving the various cars in the school, the 3 of them had vastly different attitudes

friend 1. drives Merc C320 and landcruiser
listened intently to all the advice given, but still proceded to drive around the track like miss daisy

friend 2. drives company Kia Sonata commercial, with a 1979 Escort Rs2000 for the weekends
listened intently to all the advice given, followed the advice to the letter and improved his lap time vastly

    friend 3. Drives Audi A4 1.9TDI
Completely Ignored all advice given, he said "Sure I know how to drive a powerfull car, I've got an Audi TDi 130" his times were woefull

    The rs2000 was launched in 1991 ?

The original one dates back to 1973.

Never heard of those. I presume you mean Hyundai, and if so probably a Santa fe. Because what the hell is a Sonata commercial?

 If friend No.3 drove the rs2000, would that make him better around mondello?
and if friend No.2 drove an A4, would that make him worse around the track?
So is it a people thing or a car ownership thing?

it is a personality thing, but people tend to buy cars to match their personality

    ie:
    Merc C320, conservative
Escort RS2000, Enthusiast, always eagar to imporve
Audi A4 TDi, Supremely, perhaps overly confident in their own choices and abilities

heh heh...... so how many are going to get offended at that? :D

But of course, its the VAG 1.9TDI! According to some it has enough power to launch a space shuttle.

While it's not right to judge someone by the car they drive, I'm sure we all do it.

For instance, the other evening I had an attractive 30-something blonde behind me in traffic driving a '06 5-series.

    So my conclusions:
    1) she's married, driving the hubby's car
    2) she had her "I'm Fecking Obvioulsy a Gobshíte" lights on, so she's .... eh...*

Now she might be a single, in a highly paid job and a leading member of MENSA.
For all I know, I might have just missed the love of my life, all because of my preconceptions....

*(no, not trying to start that argument)

I agree with the original poster 100% I'm not going to say I'm a great driver but a few of my friends drive powerful cars and they think it makes them good drivers when I've seen them go onto roundabouts without looking and take silly chances when overtaking.

Slightly off topic, I didn't realise Mondello had a racing school! That sounds awesome! I must see if I can get some of my mates to sign up with me.

Mondello is seriously overpriced. Much better value available in the UK.

My wife drives an A4 diesel 130bhp, and I wouldn't consider it a very powerfull car, it's a nice car to drive but hardly a world beater with blistering performance.
