    Hi all,

At our company we need to send information from our server to another companies server. The other company will create a webservice which we will call regularly to transfer the data via XML.

They mentioned using Digital Certs for their web service.

Am I right in saying that they will buy the cert and put it on their server and providse us with a key or how does this work exactly

    Thanks,
    Foxirl

Sounds like they are talking about setting up a secure connection to their web server for you to transfer the data.

Using https and a security cert they can make sure that the data is safe and that your connecting to the proper web server and not someone trying to appear as their web server.

This is all done on the web server end, and the web server owner has to register and setup this.

No key is needed for your end - it works the same was as online banking and other high security sites work - the cert info is built in to the web browsers (and updated regularly by their manufactures).

There's also the possibility of using client-side certs as well
