Pretty basic compared to some in here but a chocolate cake I baked for my friends' daughter's first birthday

(it's masking tape holding it to the base of the cake box as I had to transport in the car and was terrified of it being mushed haha)

    Hi guys!

CANNOT believe I've only just found the cakey-goodness of this forum!! I'm a hobby baker, just do cakes for family/friends every now and again. I think I'm getting better over time but I'd never attempt baking as a full time career as I'd crack from all the washing up!!!

Here are some that I've done over the past couple of years, they may not be perfect but I'm proud of them lol!!

This was my third fondant cake, it was for my brothers 18th, ended up being about 2cm shorter than his actual guitar!

    398536_3029475728734_904759095_n.jpg
This was for my niece - she's a major tom-boy! I stopped making my own marshmallow fondant shortly after this cake... it was a lot of work and nobody ever eats it anyways so now I just use the shop-bought stuff :)

A birthday cake for my partners mam, the rose wasn't edible lol

    Spongebob cake for another niece!

    An itty-bitty christening cake :)

    28185_10200403879552398_156382050_n.jpg
Lego batman cake for a friends kid..

As I type I have a chocolate mudcake in the oven (first time using the recipe - eeek!) but I won't be using fondant on it... just lashings of chocolate swiss meringue butter cream!! Nom!

Looking forward to becoming a bit of a regular poster, this is seems like a friendly, helpful community :)

My Victoria sponge topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting and crushed, coloured meringue. The inside was raspberry jam mixed with fresh raspberries.

Rhubarb and orange cake. It's not pretty but the flavour makes up for it.

Rustic apple and mix fruit flan, a couple of large red apples (dunno variety) with boiled dried apricots and prunes at the base. The crust is bog standard frozen pastry which lacks the moisture really needed for this sort of thing, might try and make my own next time, also first go at this and it tastes perfectly okay.

Must buy some ice cream now! :)

I made this yesterday - should have taken the photo after I'd put it on a plate, of course... It's raspberry drizzle cake with lime icing.

Lovely! How do you drizzle raspberry into the cake mix?

You simmer the raspberries and reduce the syrup, stir the raspberries into the mix and drizzle the syrup into the cake when it's baked. You can serve it just like that and sprinkled with sugar, but the lime icing goes really well with it.

Two I made recently! Need to do a course or something, it's very frustrating when you don't have the skills to perfect an idea :P

Forgot to put these up the other day, my first time working with sugarpaste...very happy with the outcome. :) Could have done with shaping the buttercream a bit better before covering but not bad for a first attempt

Need to learn how to paint though...

Wanted to do Elmo, Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird for ages. Last night when I was preparing beaks and eyes for Big Bird I realised all three may have been a bit much to take on at once!!

    1003990_10151846145306833_27575806_n.jpg

Went for authenicity so tried to get Oscars fur all messy with some long hairs some short hairs...I had to watch some youtube vids( had loads of fun :D ) and his tongue seems to be always showing but it makes him look too happy

Big birds beaks ended up a mess and I tried different ways to do his eyes, cos I wanted to do his eyelids. First I tried colouring white chocolate and drawing it on to white buttons but couldn't get the right shade of blue then I tried to dye sugar paste and do sugarpaste eyes. Feathers on this are way better cos the buttercream started to get too melty by the time I did the third one in the other photo.

Will do Big Bird again and concentrate on him. Fun fun. :)

Some cake what I made a while back but kept forgetting to post.
I like to call is Raspberries make me happy! Not fancy like I normally make but this was a total self indulgance with two different types of ganache.

So have to share this, it is the most awesomest ginger cake ever! I am not allowed to make one, whenever I make it I make four. Its a faff with lots of washing up and grating but soo worth it.

I got too impatient waiting for ganache buttercream to be ready so it was too soft when I went to ice. Making this all day so just got bored and wanted it finished.

First attempt at a giant cupcake...had hoped the icing would work out better so the M&M's don't look as good on it as they did in my head. :D
